- demo Windows Coronoid by Still [web]
- Just a technical question:
what tool are you using (if using one)? is it a version of the tool from Fr where you have more freedom to do your own effects etc? is any hardcore lowlevel programming happening here? and is it the same for all still demos (like beta and intrinsic gravity that are very different?) - isokadded on the 2015-03-23 18:26:00
- demo Windows Coronoid by Still [web]
- snob because I dont like triangle explosions? come on, its easy to see that a) they look cheap, especially when they are long and nasty b) break the 3d illusion - you had a solid sphere and now oops we make it explode and guess what, it was a shell after all, empty of matter c) dont get me started on how it looks when you add additive blending on top of that mess. It works some times, very rarely, but not this way.

- demo Windows Photon by Fairlight [web]
- hm yes, I dont disagree with that. It is a very esoteric demo for people who can understand and appreciate these things. It is still missing some extra magic ala uncovering static. I dont know what this is, maybe some csg or some rendering weirdness that is impossible with traditional pipeline. This will then sell it as a technology vs triangle rendering. I dont remember it very well but I think that it mentions somewhere while the demo is running that it is all realtime and not prebaked? the magic is to imply that - to make it obvious to anyone rather - that it is so without mentioning. Again like uncovering.

- demo Windows fear the setting sun by Dead Roman
- For a short demo, it hits the spot. Top end quality and attention to detail.

- demo Windows Coronoid by Still [web]
- yeah, hmm... flying explosion triangles, I loathe them. The last part is exceptional, but falls way short of a masterpiece (see last few still demos) due to short runtime and some disconnection between scenes.

- demo Windows Photon by Fairlight [web]
- For me it works as a tech demo but not as much as a demoscene demo. The music fits well and the visuals are polished enough, however it has little progression, and the effects are vastly under-used. Do we need a reminder that you could render this using prebaked geometry and shadow/reflections that are part of the 3D pipeline since early 2000? (and about 100 times faster, with smaller filesize maybe?)
The production has some magic that I simply dont get, it is missing an extra gear - a middle part that made bigger fairlight demos so much more captivating. - isokadded on the 2015-03-21 10:19:58

- demo Windows Nuclei by Pyrotech
- Sorry, I don't like it. For a demo with a cute robot running, it has no soul. It is as sterile/cold as the surrounding industrial setting. I don't know if it is the texturing (same problem I have with fr-trained demo).
Still better than your previous demos, you are now really the group to beat at assembly and this is the result of a lot of hard work and effort! - isokadded on the 2014-08-05 12:19:59
- demo Windows Black And White Lies by One Studio Off
- Great idea for a "story" demo! Black and white works very well here, and it is obvious that you could add a lot of content in not much time.
Best effort/result ratio by a very large margin (just looking at the second ranked demo - shitloads more work for a much inferior demo!). - rulezadded on the 2014-08-04 23:39:08
- demo Windows fr-070: Trained by Farbrausch [web]
- To me, this is the second best demo of the show, and by a long mile. However,
I found myself enjoying only some parts, mostly technical - what the hell is that effect with the surrounding environment while the train moves? it looks like some sort of shitloads of layers with weird blending and it is fantastic!
Otherwise, the rendering/music/direction left me rather indifferent, and the ending was sudden. Maybe less would be more!? - rulezadded on the 2014-08-04 23:36:11
