- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Megademo by Red Sector Inc. [web] & The Clumsy Creepers
- Sorry oldskoolers but I don't know what you see in this.
The vectorballs part was a somewhat amusing one though. - sucksadded on the 2017-05-16 23:33:16
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS 9 Fingers by Spaceballs [web]
- Never really did all that much to me compared to SOTA. More of the same except doesn't convey nearly the same amount of energy. Also the track is substantially worse imo. Mild thumb up though for the short bit of interesting vector quantization at the end (green flashing stuff).

- demo Commodore 64 Desert Dream by Resource [web] & Chorus
- Hard to compare with the original. Both are obviously very enjoyable, but in large part for different (yet obvious) reasons despite being the same demo as far as content goes. It's silly to say this lacks creativity, as if the concept doesn't apply when it comes to technical prowess as well. It's very rarely enough by itself though—demoscene is not a scientific publication for your latest technical discoveries—but should be augmented by the presentation. Luckily all the technical merits are framed around an already established entertaining demo, so imo it all pans out.
The soundtrack despite not exploiting all the "fancy" SID technical quirks is an excellent rendition. - rulezadded on the 2017-05-16 23:24:01
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Desert Dream by Kefrens
- One of the earliest demos I can think of that is genuinely enjoyably still (though kinda loses steam in the last third). The wonders simple thinking beyond code masturbation achieves. :)

- 4k Windows Absolute Territory by Prismbeings
- Alright a word about the high pitched sines. First of all, I'm genuinely sorry if you felt uncomfortable due to them, during the compo or otherwise on your own. I have suffered from tinnitus since a child and am very familiar with the discomfort it can cause, though then again my hearing might also be more accustomed to this.
But with that said, there are genuine artistic reasons why they had to be there. One thing is intertextuality with Ikeda's work, which commonly employs similar motifs between the visuals and audio (note especially the light animation and the beating in the audio).
The second is to simulate the very same ringing effect caused sometimes by a loud sound, in this case the boom. I feel this is a common effect used in film media, albeit many professional productions probably place more emphasis on listener comfort.
In any case I tried to make it as tolerable as possibly without letting the effect be diminished (and let it be known they were a lot more abrasive originally). In the end what kb said pretty well describes the intended effect. I tried to find a good middle ground that didn't feel like a compromise and thought I succeeded, but again sorry if you found the pitches noticeably discomforting. - isokadded on the 2017-05-16 21:11:22
- demo Windows rush hour 2 by NEXT EMPIRE
- Misses the inept charm of the original, therefore it sucks, which means it's great.

- demo Windows The Void Stared Into Me Waiting To Be Paid Its Dues by Ümlaüt Design [web]
- You already know the little things I would've done differently. Those don't matter though. What matters is the the final product, which delivers like a beast. What I love is the surprising amount of subtlety in the storytelling (not going to point out, left as an exercise to the reader). That's what makes this special if nothing else.
I've been wanting to make the brutalism demo for some time now, but luckily I feel the well hasn't ran dry yet. If anything this case study just fuels my interest further. :) - rulezadded on the 2017-05-14 13:41:55
- 256b MS-Dos QBTORUS by Abaddon [web]
- Pretty cool. Somehow I get like a nes or snes vibe from this. Probably due to the colors or the more square aspect ratio of the effect.
