- I'll do a quick copy/paste from my post at BitFellas:
Quote:Not to turn this into a hardware-price-thread, but in Norway you can get a GeForce 7100GS 512MB for 32 EUR. Shader Model 3.0 and second to last generation. Sure, it's no racer, but it's decent enough. You can also get a GeForce 7600 GT 256MB for 105 EUR. Adjust those prices for a non-oil-producing country and you have struck demoscene gold.
Now, I think that a hundred euros is a friggin' small price to pay to be able to watch demos from 2007 (and in decent framerate also).
..and yes, I know that a CPU/RAM-upgrade is probably valid in some cases as well, but jesus - it's not that costly, AND; it's not like regular hardware upgrades is anything new. I had to upgrade my PC four times between 1994 and 2000 to keep up with the demands of the demos I wanted to see. Now, if you still have your 2001-style PC for demowatching.. boo-friggin'-hoo.
My point is - I wanted to watch thos demos, so therefore I upgraded my gear. It's not exactly rocket science I'd say.
..and ACTUALLY - if people want to play the comparison game here - try getting hooked to comic book or DVD collecting or playing some kind of sport. THAT will suck your wallet dry before you can say "OUCH!", so demomaking (especially for those who just watch demos and don't go to parties and stuff) is actually one of the cheaper hobbies you can have.
So there! :) - isokadded on the 2007-08-21 16:05:32

- Delax: That is why you use the keyboard instead. Arrow-keys, Enter, ESC and PageUp/PageDown is really all you need. I only use the mouse for image-zooms and links really.

- demo Windows Ultimatum to the World: First Days of the Last War by mfx [web]
- the music is perhaps the best piece of "scene d'n'b" since lug00bers "out the exits" -- ace, ace, ace. :) the demo it a little repetitive, but the moment when the tank first appears is _massive_
