- Glad that I found this prod! I wonder if the algo has been described somewhere already. I did a (rushed) last minute release of a marching cubes algo back in 1998 at Mekka & Symposium, which I believe still was a first in 4k (actually 3k with the 624 compressor). Although I only ended up at the 6th place (the last ^^), I knew that it missed design, music (not that common back thern, but I created some soft synth for it), parameter tuning, and got some z-buffer overflows. One cool part was hearing some comments in the crowd like "This can't be!", "Impossible!".
So with that said, I think I could dig up the sources and release them, as they contain the mirroring and rotation stuff to condense the table sizes. And with some simple tuning like adding wireframe mode (to make the MC algo more visible) it might get released at some of the new gravedigger compos. - rulezadded on the 2019-11-05 11:26:30

- 256b image compression FTW! This work reminds me of an example of a genetic algorithm, which produces a resemblance of Mona Lisa by using semitransparent polygons (see here and the gallery here).
It seems you used 2 bytes for the coordinates. Did you consider some bit packing here? - rulezadded on the 2018-05-13 22:22:06

- You're right, that was the result of too much work left for the party coding phase. It was a decision about being first with 3D metaballs in 4k (3k actually). :)
The deadline came closer while the sound engine couldn't be put in due to an Z-buffer overflow bug, which needed to be found. - isokadded on the 2016-03-28 12:19:35

- Some notes by the coder himself:
It needs a 320x200x32 LFB VESA video mode. To get it running in Windows, I used SOLVBE (https://sourceforge.net/projects/solvbe/). First it was very slow, but after some changed performance settings (esp. VRC timing: sleep(10)), a switch to Fullscreen and then back, brought at least a respectable framerate in this VESA emulation ;)

- It could be slow on P4 because of x87 code with many divisions. On A64 it runs fine.
