- demo Windows Frameranger by Fairlight [web] & orange & Carillon & Cyberiad [web]
- always good to see once again CNCD and destop in what he do best: designing the best code he can get to the wow effect. it does feel at moments as a mashup (i was also having the codename chinadoll feel in the beginning, especially when i first saw it live on asm stream), but the demo is actually not that much different than most of destop/cncd stuff which usually is a mashup of stand-out effects and graphics, however smartly connected to a flow using music and visuals as a connection and storytelling: one may say - the essence of demo. remember killer, closer, deep the psylocycin mix, inside... i reckon this kind of feel to their new cncd/flt/orange stuff, and in some way they are getting at it... nonstop ibiza experience, media error and frameranger are at least some to mention in the last decade that falls in imho...
i would say, whoever runs the show there, being it single guy or a crew, know exactly what he is doing, even when he dont :)
this one falls into those that actually have a stronger storytelling line than usual, something i am not being able to write down in words, but there it is anyway ;) reminds me how i felt when i watched the greatest demos since the beginning...
after the carchase scene, which looks amazing and make you wish those kind of games really exist, the transformation to robot and fight with the spider-boss reminds a bit of transformers but then again, all the parts used in demo are mostly seen somewhere but here they are used otherwise, that's the whole magic.
even the last part, which i could call 'nostalgic' is not falling out of 'concept', using a remade chip vibe, 3d-pixel effects, blobs and even some shadebobs of a kind, it ends in nice and optimistic atmosphere, wrapping up the whole thing in demoscene festivity, as a powerfull showoff that stands out high among todays collaboration of art and technology, further than games are providing, or at least in quite different context.
it's quite important to mention other collaborates to this project, fairlight and orange, who are also a demoscene veterans, being through quite some time on the scene, and still plundering :) to have this kind of dream team of designers, coders and artists making a ASM demo may be compared to many great demoscene dream teams that were assembled on scene history over big productions.
i may have gone too far in hailing this one, and someone will surely point a finger in me thinking i am sucking up, but it cant be further than truth. i do follow the work of CNCD from the beginning, being a scener from early 90s, and after seeing this demo, i just cant hold of my huge respects for what they do and what they did and what they will still do.
so, think what you want about me, but always remember that those guys are the ones that had a major influence in the scene for over 15 years - and for me, seeing them still around, coming out with fresh stuff and winning the parties and hearts of both sceners and gamers, bring me back to the day, where we had copyparties where both sceners and gamers would enjoy it, without too much officiality, competitions, organisation and stuff...
oh well, i've gone too far, but i hope someone will find the point somewhere in there...
at the, keep up the good work ppl,
have a beer on me,
and see you around...
