Afaik expired domains is up for sale which means automated rbn bots buys them and displays stupid ads and malware on them. Different registrars might have other policies around this though but I'll doubt there is any standard. I have heard about people who have been asked for quite a large sum of money to register reclaim expired domains (retrohackers for instance, perhaps someone can fill me in on that issue).

I suggest to screw that domain. It was nice indeed, but no one should never ever pay domain hijackers a peny. www.256intro.com, www.intro256.com, www.intro256b.com are free, www.256byte.com, www.256bytes.com are already hijacked by advertisment morons...

Screwing the domain sounds fine with me. I'm wondering if it should feature "256" or "256b". Ok, the site was mainly about 256b intros but it included all kind of demoscene productions around and under 256 bytes.
