Demo Disk

category: general [glöplog]
Shifter: I've already got a CD of lots of demos. I'm just trying to demonstrate "you can fit dozens of these onto a single floppy" to my friends in the coolest way possible.

@ Crusader

most ppl dont understand what a 64k is, even if you show them how many you can put on a disk...

tell them, that a 46k intro is as big as 2 empty (!) MS Word files, then they will be impressed ;)

True. But the people I talk to are at least intelligent enough to realize how much a floppy holds, and that I'm pretty much putting an hour of high-ish quality movies onto a floppy disk.
And apparently Dell agrees with Okkie about floppies. They didn't even want to give me a drive, and the drive can only handle 1.44mb floppies (or 1.38, as they show up)

crusader: the compatability mode is surprisingly useful now and then. It actually does help a lot for certain demos. One that comes to mind is poem to a horse party version - i watched it without compatability mode, then with, and was surprised to see a lot of extra effects!

As to the background windows fighting with the demo, try 'run in 640x480' and 'disable visual themes' on the compatibility options, or otherwise different drivers. Both should work perfectly in xp, and i've tried both on various machines. On heaven7, you can also try running in window mode and maximise the window - if you have a half-decent gfx card, it'll smooth scale it for a nicer looking demo :)
