List of demoparties with avg. # atendants

category: parties [glöplog]
Having problems "landing" after Revision, it's as if there's waaay too long before next major event, and that made me wonder. While there's a great list of parties at demoparty.net, what could be really great, was a list of parties along with an estimated number of antendants or antendants at last years party.

So organizers (opening ceremony-speakers of Revision) please could you post the name of your party along with the avarage / estimated number of atendants, and I'll create a nice list. If you post (working) links from last time your party was held, I'll try to create the list with info about compos too.

What's so interesting about the number of attendants in your opinion? In my personal experience, it's a rather trivial statistic which is definitely not directly linked to the perceived quality of a party.

Anyways, the last edition of Outline had just over 150 visitors. Info about this year's compos is on our website and releases/results from previous years are on this very website, dhs.nu and scene.org.

Last year at Solskogen we had 113 visitors (+ 6 crew members).

Rowley: It's in no way an attempt to judge the quality of parties. Each party has it's unique qualities, and all parties (to my best experience) has it's ups and downs. Still - there's a huge difference in parties with 500+ atendants and parties with 50- participants.

It's not in any way an attempt to "rate" each party or otherwise judge the parties. But let's say you created a groundbreaking 4k intro - wouldn't you want to release it at a party that actually had that category and where most people would cheer or even dance to the music while your entry was played?

Anyways - the number of atendants have nothing to do with the quality of the party whatsoever, and I'm surprised anyone would actually draw that conclusion. My favorite parties are the smaller norwegian and danish parties while the huge German one(s?) has it's own charm and distinct scene-feeling to it.

I know my preferences about parties from the past 15 years or so, so a list of parties, their estimated number of attendants and their compos would definately be useful to me, as I'm sure it would for quite a few others. 'cause let's face it - none of us here are attending our first party, and we've pretty much etstablished a sence of what constitutes a good party and what does not.

Perhaps I could have asked the demoparty.net people expand their database to include the number of atendants and kind of compos as well, but it seems to me, more people check pouet regularly than demoparty.net.

I'd like to go on record and say that Solskogen also has four of those six things Puryx :)

Is there really more than one pure demoparty with 500+ people? Heck, even with 200…?

(There are several around or just below 100, of course.)

Function fluctuates between 150 and 200 usually.

over the last 15 years? that list would be long

a few pure demoparties that ive visited over the last 15years with more than the 500 ppl as Sesse calls for would be Icing, Pool Position & Compusphere in the late 90s. And thats only in the small region north & northwest of gothenburg.
Sorry to say puryx, but actually solskogen has dibs on Captain Denmark, but you haven't written DUB quiz on the list \o/ ... or Hans

dwarf: I wasn´t sure what to call the quiz, but indeed the DUB quiz + Hans are features as well!

I was talking about 500+ these years, not late 90s :-) I'd guess Revision would be the only one to cross that line. If Function is indeed ~200, I'd believe they're the second biggest, but what do I know.

Stream has had around 180 people for the past few years.

X2010 had about 300 visitors. Which is quite a lot, since it's c6r only.

Not sure how many visitors Alternative Party has had but I think it's over 500. Then next question is how do you define "scene only", "pure demoparty" and such bullshit.

To a certain degree, it's about how the party defines itself.

I think Evoke also had 200+ visitors.
I'll try to create the list with the amount of scene-atendants. Eg. TG would land somewhere in the vicinity of 200-400 atendants despite the 3000+ visitors in general.

The main issue is the compo-lists. Each party have their own set of definitions for the various compos which combine various platforms, sizes and technology. I came up with a way to get around that by simply adding all possible (and quite a few impossible) compos and then marking which compos are combined at each party. It'll be quite fine, but would definately need a verification from the organizers once the list is complete.

Puryx - the TRSAC website currently show no compo-list (either for this year nor last year) so do you have a list (from last year) I could use?

An interesting issue is how you count a “visitor”. E.g., altparty has only room for ~100 people with computers, but about ten times as many people without… Do you count e.g. day passes at TG?
added on the 2011-05-01 13:16:18 by Sesse Sesse
FWIW: TG has 5000+ visitors, not 3000+. There were 200 creative tickets sold, and then quite a few sceners and ex-sceners entering on day passes and similar.

I think the organizers are capable of making a decision on how many scene-visitors their party have. Let's not go into detail by defining a set of rules as to how to count. It could be the number of visitors eligable to vote, the total number of scene-related visitors or anywhere in between. A one-day-compo-lurker visitor wouldn't count as a visitor in my opinion, but if organizers feel like counting those as well, fine by me ;)

Depends. There is a lot to say for releasing groundbreaking stuff on smaller scene-only-parties. For example the signal to noise ratio of the visitors. The impact a big release makes on a small party by raisinbg the bar, etc. But I agree ofcourse that is is silly to release an awesome prod at a party that hasn't even got a proper category for it. Although I wonder if there is any pure-scene party that lacks any major compos.
added on the 2011-05-01 14:33:11 by numtek numtek
Well, there have been several scene-only parties that have been too small to have a separate intro compo, at least. Of course, you might be happy releasing your 4k in a combined 4k/64k/demo category anyway, if you like the party.
