I watched several scene productions this evening, first some demos by the group Division, which I liked very much, mostly because of colours, music and some effects. Then somehow I had the idea to take a look at Hugi.GER, the German language diskmag the first issue of which was released in the year 2000. It struck me that the quality of the first issues of Hugi.GER is far below the one of the international (English language) Hugi issues of those days (Hugi 18/19). The background picture in Hugi.GER #1 is ugly and makes the text hard to read; and the contents are not interesting. I wonder why I released this crap back then. It is as if two different persons and made Hugi and Hugi.GER - while in reality I made both of them.

I wondered what I should do now - maybe it would be a good idea to remove links to Hugi.GER from the Hugi website, pouet and other places, or to have the files removed from scene.org entirely.

It is really a strange thing. While Hugi used to grow in quality and partially also in quantity from issue 1 to roughly about issue 19 (and only declined a bit after that, save for the issues with EP and that stuff), Hugi.GER was a kind of backlash, as if a second ego inside my head had taken over, which had rested since 1996, and decided to create a diskmag BELOW the level of the first (German language) Hugi issues. It is really a shame.

Do you need to "remove" theese lesser hugis from the hugi collection? To separate them from the uber-hugis to avoid them to be mixed together? What is your final solution in this matter?

The problem is: If people get to see Hugi.GER #1, and haven't seen any English-language Hugi issue from 1999/2000, they might think that THAT (the level of Hugi.GER #1) was the level of Hugi in the years 1999/2000 - which is a wrong impression: Hugi 16-19 reflect the level of Hugi in the years 1999/2000 best.

I am really puzzled what made me make Hugi.GER in the first place! That magazine was an anachronism. While the German language part in Hugi issues 12 - 17 had already moved into the "demoscene" direction, Hugi.GER made - a regression. A regression back to the level of 12-year-olds. Had the "real" Hugi also made a regression, then okay, one could say: Apparently Adok made a regression. But obviously I did not. It's as if I had been a split personality!

The question can be generalized: What should somebody do who RELEASED shit (not "made shit", that's irrelevant as long as he does not release it)?

Actually I believe that if demosceners pretend to be anti-racist, they are mostly dishonest. The simple reason: Demosceners believe that lamers (people having no demo-related skills) are inferior to them. Although lamers are not a race in the biological sense of this word, this attitude is equal to racism.

I alos dunno what made you release the .ger thing. You might have been in the mood to seperate that from the rest. But well... if you look at it now and think it was not good enough to be released or the wrong direction, then just be consequent and get rid of it.

I dont' see the point to separate, or worse, delete old hugi.ger stuff. If I remember correctly, you host on your site some old stuff dating when you've been a kid (some kind of game or whatever) - did you erased it? Did you hid it from visitor's eyes? Nope, you just posted it, and there's nothing wrong with it. So let the old hugi.ger issues as they are, for sake of completness.

I didn't even knew about the german hugis before. Nobody's gonna see them first and then the real hugis. There is nothing to be ashamed. Also, whatever I do, I have the policy to keep it in the database. I have released a lot of crap too, you know.
