ile: i really doubt i would've ever coded any demo at all without that crash course :-) (not that i did a lot with it, but still some!)

maali: who is vulture/outlaw? :)
i was refering to ile's post. vulture did those demo series tutorials in the mid 90s that were pretty popular. he then later went into the abyss of 'i wanna code a retrogame' and i did the pixelwork for that, but that kinda ended up in his pursuit for 3d coding instead.

like many others in this joint, SWAGS was also my debut into coding graphics stuff in practical terms :)

thanks everyone and you're very welcome. i had great fun creating all that stuff back in the days - and still do actually.
in fact, i was planning to write a search engine for ages and recently set of to do just that. i chose the SWAG package as the content since it's such a nice isolated and static piece of data.
i agree the usefulness of this little endeavor is doubtful at this day and age, but still it was an interesting exercise.
if u like, u can see it here: http://webtweakers.com/swag/
cheers!

explorer: This is the first time I hear of all this material, coming from a prolonged Amiga background. It looks very interesting, especially the graphics examples. Thank you for making it available again!

Funny, I was searching for old demo stuff and came across this thread. I used to live in Kloof near Denthor. At that time I was only in high school and used to dial into the Asphyxia BBS with my 1200 baud modem (wahoo) and download the tuts when new ones came out. I always planned on going to visit Denthor but never did, he was only a walk away from my house.

The demo scene in South Africa was almost non-existant, I can only remember two or three demo groups actually existing at the time. Lots of people have moved out of South Africa now due to the policits there, mainly to the UK and Australia. I could probably try and track down some info from some old friends, but I'm not sure if we would find anything :)

Explorer appears to be Bas Van Gaalen, not Denthor. Denthor is still missing :)

I know a guy who says he used to work with him writing gambling software in Durban. Says the last time he saw him was 2007. He says he moved to the Isle of Man and doesnt know if hes moved back or not. He says the facebook link here isnt him.

oh the memories!
Same here, reading up on that shit, bringing it on floppy discs to my grandparents' where I spent my summers in the early-mid 90s. Did know one of them was from South Africa (beautiful country by the way). Inopia/Quad was a member of OT as well for a while.
