Retro coding would improve my MAD SKILLZ?

the only thing i could reuse in demomaking under pc/c++/directX after having coded in the 90s on amiga/68k-assembler was the grasp for demostyle !
i had a long pause in coding lasting for a decade tho.
i guess watching some oldskool-demos via emus or even just on demoscene.tv will yield the same results !
ofcoz when it comes to optimizing code so it runs faster/better/etc it could have helped me aswell, but the tricks are mostly complete different ones on pc ! also they change with every new graphics-card-generation and API-changes ( directX/openGL ) !

so if you wanna do some oldskool-stuff just do it, but for learning how to demo i´d say it won´t help that much !
yep, writing some own vector-routine once is a good idea for every demo-coder !
maybe even combined with learning assembler ! pc that can be, but amiga does aswell !
c64 could be a bit hard without knowing everything about all of em illegal opcodes and the rest of the tricks !
@speeder: You also have to love it, to adore it, to like trying to understand for example how things like small intros on PC or fast routines in 8bits are possible. You also have to try something yourself, read some relevant discussions, etc. Some people love these stuff, for example I wake up and think about these stuff constantly, other people are better at good code design but not motivated enough to optimize or maybe they don't think about it everyday. And when you like it your brain slowly slowly adapts and it is your hobby. Retro stuff (for 8bits) or procedural (for 64k intros) stuff, etc.
