But but... seriously, I didn't even take him seriously... I mean... "lol" :)
I hardly ever take Rowkin Birleykin seriously!

you know, the fact I didn't see the guy coming back and telling us it's fixed... I believed he REALLY bought a GUS
Hello, funny people.

I have already 5 GUS: 1 Classic (3.4 with good capacitors), 2 MAX (512kb+1024kb), 1 PnP, and also one Extreme. So no, I'm not getting any more of that kind. Even 2 of those are in "living" PC:s, in use for old stuff. I suppose many of You have similar setups as well, yes?

The reason I finally got back for this thread is, that any trick for "making it default" doesn't work. Why would I have come here and ask anyway if it was that simple? Second reasong was, that also this year Assembly 4k winner was dead silend, so I had to start trying something to hear their hyped soundtrack.

If the 0404 USB was used for composing Elevated, doesn't mean anything: it's totally different animal than the PCIe card. Even the EMU webpage didn't list the PCIe version last time I checked... Hell, maybe the card even doesn't exist and I'm all dreaming... :-P

Here anyway trick for all You people, who are as deep of *#it with EMU 0404 PCIe what comes to "Scene": use the second lowest HW acceleration level at maximum, AND use some SW to initialize the sound output before running some badly coded demos and Steam-crap. I open SCUMMvm in the background, since it hardly consumes any resources, but has decently coded sound-engine. Lowering the sound HW acceleration to lowest level gives no other benefit to second lowest but terrific hiss in the background, so don't even give it a try. You can also use SW like DXdiag to initialize the sound output, but since I already had a shortcut for SCUMMvm always at hand and it behaves nicely, I'll live with that.

Now only I would try to start fixing my SC-55 mkii, it has too many moving parts to stand time as well as my LAPC-I / MT-32 / Philips SAA-1099 / ... (You name it)

(Yes, I'm and old fart what comes to soundcards)

I have the same problem as him with an E-MU 1212 M pci soundcard, and these same demos don't give any sound... :> of course all other demos and programs work fine with sound... :>

Yes, the third I just faced was the "Neanderstaller", the Assembly2010 4k winner.

Try what worked with me: either from Control Panel or the dxdiag turn the acceleration to second lowest and start for example SCUMMvm on the background (start some game as well and pause it with F5). Works at least for me... Somehow nice to hear the Elevated once more after a while, majestetic.

so in general, does DirectSound work at all?

Pls. go through the standard procedure before moving forward.

1. Is the computer on or off when the silence occur?
2. Is your speakers / head set wired to the equipment?
3. Have you made sure that the sound is turned up (and not muted) in Windows?
4. Are you using the latest drivers?
5. Have you confirmed that DirectSound, etc. works in other apps (e.g. Winamp)?
6. If all others fail, buy a new sound card.
i have tested the EMU on windows 7x32,x64 system. works fine here. try to download latest driver, or look @ some good mods for it.

@Hopeapaa: Do you have Vista?
I think it sucks with the sound. Just right now I get no sound from Ars Nova 64k intro. I know I was getting it days ago in this laptop.
Also AGS adventure games, no midi.
Flash sometimes (youtube or games) no sound, then it's fixed, then no sound. People complaining on the internet. People with vista not found solution.
I think.
(Debris run here just right now though, Elevated doesn't even start :P)

EMU 1820m under WinXP also have problems with some prods. Debris is fine, but a lot of 4ks and some demos won't produce any sound.
