Keito: not to mention that the guy tried to make many party orgs look bad and unrealiable many times whereas they were trying to organize real stuff, not troll crap.
Concerning trolling, well as pete just said he should most probably have been banned here a long time ago, i've seen other users banned for less, not much consistancy there.
Don't get me wrong i'm not saying i particularly like the guy, he makes me laugh sometimes with his crazy comments, but also is very annoying most of the time aswell. The point is i wouldnt particularly want to see this kindof competition done at mostly anyones expense, not just his.
As for the other party compos, well thats why they already have and have always had pre-selection to whittle out the crap and the fake, thats nothing new and plenty of demos have been DQ'd over the years, as was BITS at Assemblys this year i think, so no problem there, is there ?

The guy may be a hardcore troll, or then have serious issues, or then just be very "different", but for fuck's sake: He's just one guy who's doing something that he likes to do. Ban him if he causes that much trouble or breaks the rules of this or some other site, don't watch his productions or thumb them down if you don't like them, don't show his productions at parties if you don't think they are appropriate. Install the attention whore script and disable his user ID. All of this is fine. But organizing a whole fucking competition on a fucking demoparty solely for the purpose of humiliating and making fun of a guy you don't even know is both totally disgusting and fucking lame. That is not most certainly the demoscene that I signed up for, but a bunch of bullies on a schoolyard.
This sort of stuff leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. And for the record, I think that the Adok money at Breakpoint was equally lame for the exact same reason.

preacher: no-one is bullying him. it's not like we're hacking his website or fucking with him online. it's just a collective pestering of someone who should know better. most newbies get bashed when they begin, but then they learn.

BITS demos are quite easy to just ignore. Solo isn't acting like a jerk, he's not insulting or attacking anyone. He's a bit silly/deranged at time that's all.
Here I see a bunch of guys who were bullied when kids and now they're out to get their revenge on a weaker one, and that's is ugly.
I agre with jeenio that there's always been some wars and bashing in the scene, but it has to stay fair. 1 on 1. here we're talking about what? 10, 20 people on 1... and we know in advance that the guy won't strike back, maybe post some $$$ Silly quotes, ilegal transmissions, alien shit $$$. That's kinda lame.
In a worst case scenario, if he's deranged enough pushing him too far could turn him into a new EP. we don't need a new EP.

It doesn't really make a difference whether SoLo is a real person or not. It could just as well be someone else unpopular or not in the "in crowd", as long as this kind of mentality is accepted and encouraged in the first place. I'm sure that those in the know chuckle a lot at the whole thing, and some of those not in the know chuckle a lot too. After all, the people who can't handle it are weak anyway.

OK. Right, I never intended to provoke such ire from people, nor did I want to hurt anyones feelings or pull any cheap PR stunts for Sundown - honestly, not much thought went into it.
The legal threat I received I thought was rather funny at the time, and that's the only reason I posted it.
In hindsight it was a bad decision to post the e-mail and set up the competition in the first place, and I take full responsibility for it.
Whether Herman Samso is real, or an elaborate troll effort is certainly food for thought, but I'm willing to consider the possibility that he could be a slightly misguided guy with good intentions, and as such I'm cancelling the BITS competition out of respect for that.
