Hardware accelerated css - time for some decent browser demos?

Seems that on top of audio/video support in html at last, we're going to get hardware acceleration too:

Looks like only safari is doing it so far, but the others are sure to follow (well, except internet explorer). Not-so-new demo platform on the way then :)

visually it looks a bit like cooliris vs foxtab
I protest the title as it suggests that the existing kickass browser demos do not kick ass.
Yeah, there's some good browser demos, but they're all either flash/whatever/not-html-only, or generally pretty small on the screen or slow. Running them fullscreen at high speed would rule :)

the firefox-plugin doing what that video shows would be:

but in CSS would be nice...just force Firefox-Coders to add Real_Fullscreen then ;) ( not just F11 )

The plan seems to be for the extensions to become part of the HTML spec. But anything that runs only in a nightly build using stuff from outside the official spec isn't exactly 'pure' :) (Btw, that probably invalidates a bunch of old dhtml demos that ran in IE a few years back.) It should be a good indication of what's coming though, and it seems the hardware support is present in the next version of osx at least.

Cocoon: the point isn't really that they can do cooliris without a plugin. If they can do that, we can do much more cool stuff ;)

Apple submited a proposal for CSS 3D transforms to the W3C.
I've been waiting for something like that for years, esp. when I worked on the browser on Wii back in 2006.

I'm really really curious to see how CSS 3D transforms behave wrt the cascade and all the crazy things that could be achieved when combined w. soft box & text shadows and various mask/clip techniques.

Personally I think there are a couple of decent browser demos, even in the web standards realm, but it's a niche scene with really few big releases.

Just to clarify that title: there are decent html demos already, but up until now the platform has not been exactly decent. It's been pretty much a choice of text mode, tiny viewing window, very simple graphics, or slow.

As a classic example: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=31093 That was cool, but really showed the platform limits. If it was done hardware accelerated, I can't see why it wouldn't run full screen at high speed, with high res graphics. Ok, so it would be a different game then, but still it's a massive leap forwards.

Thanks for the mention. Bare in mind that I wrote most of 3D Tomb II back in 2002. At the time it was fitting in 5K. The5k.org got cancelled and I let the game to rust for some years before looking at it again and shoving 1 extra K for added demoscene creds :p

Yeah, I know it's old and would be much faster with canvas etc., but it still wouldn't run at any kind of decent res while still being playable :)

Reckon something like doom would be possible in html with these extensions poi?
