Atari 8-bit tutorial

category: general [glöplog]

I noticed a lot of Atari XL/XE demos have been posted recently, so I downloaded an emulator (Atari 800 Win), but now I am completely lost!

I found out how to attach an ATR image to a diskdrive name, but that's it.

Can anybody tell me how to get a dir from the drive and how to load and run demos from a floppy image ?

I have exactly the same problem. I mean,. I can see most Atari8bit demos because they are autoboot, but I had problems with a demo compilation, because I didn't knew the OS to see the dir and run some files. What to do?

yeah, i was in the same situation but i found a cure. My only experience with atari xe/xl is watching demos in emulator, just so you know. i guess there is an easier way.
All you gotta do is find a disk image that boots up in a dos program. then you'll have "dir" command and you can see files and run, just what you need.

Check forever.sk and get the atari releases for some year and chances are you'll find a disk that boots up in some dosprogram. Then you can just attach the disk with the demo you want to watch and run it from there....

Yes, I downloaded the Forever 4 XL/XE entries and you can boot on this disk.

Just attach the image and do a cold boot to enter DOS.

It works more or less like MS-DOS or CP/M so it is easy. Just DIR and type the filename to run.
