niels + xeron: or maybe it's something especially particular to _this_ year's xmas that is making us more cynical. it's hard to have fun, when you know people all around you are suffering.

but then, without a real sense of "good will to all men", I can see how many people who are _currently_ not effected by the whole situation will not care less and probably the best xmas ever!!!

enjoy your £50+ turkey, let's hope it's not £100+ next year or you at least still have a job to be able to afford it.

Buy the £200+ turkey , that way you help people affected by the finance crisis. (More sales = more money to the shop = less get fired)

i'd be happy if it worked that way. unfortunately, the people will still get fired and the only people who'll benefit from my £200+ turkey will be fatcats and shareholders.

Weird Al Yankovic ftw !
thanx,Psykon for this nice vid :))
( just finished the main-story of fallout3 so this fitted absolutely into my mood :) )

maybe we hate xmas because its all about commerce and having stress...not to mention all those pseudo-happy-ppl jumping around.
the only good thing about christmas is that the kids have a good time ! ( yes, i aswell waited eagerly for santa when i´ve been a child, and i have nice rememberings about it ! )

@xmassmurder

Actually, nearly all my salary goes on debts and bills. We live off my wife's salary. She has left her job to go to university. We are facing a year of pretty much no expendable cash. We can't afford to give the gifts we want to for christmas.

We're still looking forward to spending christmas together and having a good time.

No really, I like Christmas. Just get in mind it's a way for many members of a family to be reunited again at least once a year when they are all scattered accross many regions...
And it's just a bit of happiness, magical and dreams for the kids (and surely older peoples who were kids before...) and it means a lot.

Now time for some Sufjan Stevens christmas music

Before, the xmas tree was decorated with fruits, oranges and red apples.
it's not a question of money only, or its your world.

£50+ turkey? is it made from gold?? People buy turkey because it's cheap, if you want traditional it's supposed to be a goose.

We've decided to do a peking duck for xmas lunch anyway :)

i didn´t even have a christmas tree since i got my first own flat...
...what for? to have to vacuum-clean the carpet and to get rid of the rest somehow afterwards ? what did i pay for then ? --> the tree, the disposal of wastes and the blown-up electricity-bill, while having burned away some more coil or nuclear-wasted the world a bit more...depends on where your power comes from, which no1 really knows in a bigger town anyway !

and the decoration of the tree: every 2nd year its not functionable anymore, so you have to get new shit and produced more special waste ! ( when it comes to the electric-deco...which ofcoz has the burning-electricity/polluting the world-bonus aswell )

its just funny aswell how no1 ever sees a church from inside the whole year, but on xmas every1s there ! affectation i say !

sorry, just wanted to have said it once!

merry xmas everyone ! ( me´s just happy when its over again ! )
Merry Christmas, it might be the last one. With Obama in the office next year, who knows what will happen? He might replace it with Kwanzaa.

Happy winter solstice festivities to everyone! =D

cOcOOn: same thing here, haven't got a tree since i live on my own. But if your deco lasts only 2 years try to get some less cheap stuff, maybe not made in china. I know my parent's xmas deco has been the same for over 15-20 years, appart from some light bulbs.

and the other question: is it more ecologic to have a real tree or one made of petroleum derivates? we should find a way to make them from used tires :)

get your christmas-fat burned by simply cycling the energy for its power supply.

store the power in a car-battery (throw it into the lake nearby, after using),
so ya won´t have to cycle all the christmas time.
refresh the xmas battery´s power by cycling for it every second hour.

reuse the christmas-tree-decoration from 1889 - every year.
will save some additional power.

try to conservate the tree with clear lacquer.
ya probably won´t need to buy a new one next year.

but be careful.. its the leaves that make a christmas-tree ;)
