### NextEmpire Awards 08, scene celebrating ###

category: general [glöplog]
1. I fully support this idea. Won't give it more recognition than the scene.org awards thou....

2. Damn, are people realy getting upset over this?

It's strange. I once posted in another forum, actually made a new account, I was new there and they spoke about things. I was enthousiastic and posted in three threads, replied actually and wrote things about me and the stuff discussed there. No off topic, not even big texts (each text was 2-3 lines or a paragraph on the thread). And the next day they erased all my texts. Why? Because I was more active posting than others (but it was never as crazy as here, it was normal) and they considered it attentionwhoring especially for a newcomer?

Sometimes I speak to someone about something I am enthousiastic (e.g. computers) and I am passionate and somehow monologize the discussion. But he listens and a third guy who is not in our discussion makes some comments like he dislikes me, because if I talk too much I am like an attentionwhore or something. I don't know. It's awfull. It doesn't happen very frequently but maybe there are a lot of moments I don't know it.

People feel elite because they have done real good demos and are getting to serious or I don't know, it's like, they want some order or something but it's ok except if it feels somehow bad. I don't know if it's because I am feeling their elitness and I am biased or because they really tend to get an autoritating style because they are "serious" sceners or something.

Things are strange.

And the idea, I like it's funny. Many people would not want it. Depends.

Optimus: i guess it's derivated from politeness and respect to elderly veterans, it was transcribed into net ethics as the implicit rules that newbies should read a certain time before participating and especially opening a new thread, and that posters should self-moderate their own activity according to others.

moderation is a hard balance and harder duty, always on a edge between wiping out the extremes and applying authoritarianism, between helping the newbies and helping only your friends.

the imageboard system is quite fascinating, the anarchist's dream come true! with non-stop reactivity, emerging movements, information leaks as political weapons, and almost full anonymity, no moderation and no hierarchy!

pouet bbs doesn't need to be one, that isn't its tradition.

split BBS into demoscene-related and random whatever threads sections
first section gets moderated and shown on the frontpage, secone one - not (or whatever way you want it)
is that hard to do?

and zest, in his whole uniqueness, posted an image in the thread

alls well that ends well
(First you ban "active sceners" who troll (or are mentally ill?) and now you're talking about banning "non-active" ones, because they don't fulfil some weird standards...)

(Just a fucking stupid off-topic question: what is an active scener?)

Probably worst game http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=52132.

cool idea, Worst Game as a 7th categorie :)

personally i hardly play games released at demoparties, but on screen some do look fun or funny.

actually a Best Game title would make a logical addition to scene.org awards. i remember Zen Bondage by Moppi, it would have made a great candidate back in 2005 :) however it wasn't released at a party, so technically it wasn't differentiatable from the gazillions of amateur games :/
