Democompo recordings

category: general [glöplog]

So I watched the NVScene 4k compo recording from Demoscene.tv last night.
Of course watching the compo streams live is even nicer (Breakpoint and Assembly etc.)l, but watching the nvscene compo even after the releases are out adds something, you get the crowd reaction which gives more atmosphere than just running the stuff yourself.

It would be great if someone could make the effort to make recordings of compos at all parties, even if there is no live streaming possibilites.
I know I would LOVE to see a recording of the upcoming X'2008 compo (since I know there will be some NICE stuff there).
It shouldn't be too hard to organize - I mean, take a digital video cam, put it on a tripod (or some other platform) at the back of the hall, point at bigscreen, press record - done!

Having these recordings would make a nice addition to history. For example it would have been great to have had these recordings of old compos, say being able to witness the atmosphere when Desert Dream was shown for the very first time at TG'93 or, FR-08 at TP'00 etc.

Sounds like a good idea, but I see a few draw backs on this. Putting a cam on a tripod and fiilming the croud sounds Ok, but imho thats boring like hell. To spice up the things you must edit the movie and use sequences from the demos shown and other stuff as well. Doing so takes a lot of time. The other thing ist, who shall attend to all parties?
Anyway, think its a idea worth thinking 'bout. Maybe this becomes standard at the bigger parties were scene.tv can attend.

I didn't mean filming the crowd only, I mean filming the bigscreen from the back of the hall, just like the nvscene recording.

Well, I'll probably have the camera mounted next to the projector and taking an audio feed from the crowd and the demos themselves. Does need a bit of thought...

Here's a floorplan to give you an idea:

rc55: Sounds like a good plan! The important part is just to have the demos showing at the same time as you have the crowd sound, that is what creates the atmosphere - seeing the effect and thinking 'wow' and then you hear the crowd going crazy! :D

agree, i especially want to see people's reactions to the scheisse series, after that segment in hyperscheisse..
Sdw: that's a good idea at first thought, specially for those who were at the party and are happy to remember the feeling of watching sensational prods on big screen at their first showing among a roaring crowd :)

but the audience has to be big enough (like at the breakpoint or the assembly) to be worth being recorded imho... or else it sounds a bit hollow, even if all the few attendants are happily clapping.

Zest: You might have a point, but I think that even a moderate sized crowd (100 or so) at a small party place can make quite a noise!
