New categories needed
category: general [glöplog]
Hi everyone,
I am bored to find 3d scene flybies, most of the time without any design, and sometimes showing ugly 3d scenes, labelling to be demos on pouet.net.
Why not adding a new category of productions, labelled "flybies" or "3d flybies" for this kind of creations?
After all, making a 3d scene flybie under direct3d is not more complicated than making a slideshow on amiga 500, and we have a category for slideshows.
However, some 3d flybies can also be slideshows, but that's not the point here.
I am frustrated to see that some demos using procedural 3d objects and 3d flybies are mixed up in the same category, although they slighly don't require the same quantity of work and the same skills on the code side.
What do you think?

Those are genres, not categories.
I don't like the idea. It is too subjective whether a demo is a flybye or not..
PLEASE SHUT UP GODDAMN AAAAAARGKJSDFKJH@!*&#^%!@%#*^%!&#%!*%@!!@#@!!U
That's no good idea...yep! I agree!
It's surely a too objective point of view then...
I'd more vote for any categories still missing here for real...
like certain consoles if it comes to demo-releases on there! (ps2 etc...) and some more...already mentioned in other threads on here...

maybe it could be fun if it wasn't a category but something we could vote on.. you could tally the vote and get a humorous description like, this demo is 80% flyby 20% oldschool and 90% dutch design
I'd prefer art / not art categories.
Why not to create a categorie "scroller+logo+one effect" there's many of them =).
NO !
NO !
nystep: first do demo (3d flybies or "real" demo), and after we see ...
c'st vrai choupette on les attend toujours tes super prod compressées avec ton algo de fou...

how about new category: shit.
any prod moved there reduces 5 glöps. once the glöps go below 0, user gets banned and hir email address automatically added to the most popular spamlists.
now we just need a moderator who could choose which demos should be put there. i suggest wode.

That's not necessarily true. A 3D flyby could involve realtime raytracing, or maybe some fancy-ass use of programmable shaders, or some other such thing. A procedural object might just use some sine functions. Really, it all depends upon how much effort was invested, not underlying methods.
