I use a EEE 1000H with 2GB either, if iam outside somewhere in the sun or travel.
Its quite fair to carry and the battery lifetime is 6 !!!! Hours with USB Moble internet stick,
thats outstanding.
Also was total easy to install OSX on it, all devices are supported and its quite fast.
ONLY weakpoint is the processor, when it comes to watch HD Videos ( its getting "blocky" )
beside that, and infact if you see the price ...
Its a must have for nerds :)

i think ps posted on an optimus thread this week.
I ended up with a eee 901 instead of the a1 I said I was going to get earlier in this thread. Quite satisfied with it, though, the CPU is utterly crap. Nonetheless, it works perfect for simple coding stuff, web-browsing, e-mails, movies and music. So it does what it's supposed to, but not much more.
I found some good stuff for the EeePC:
eectl - Adjust FSB/PCI-E/fan speed and see your CPU temperature.
Softswitch - Turn on/off devices from the device manager, adjust volume, see keyboard modifier state.

It arrived yesterday. Nice little machine.
- Build quality seems really nice.
- Even under load it is quite silent. The fan runs most of the time though.
- The keyboard is decent, only the right shift key is a bit small and in an odd spot.
- The buttons on the touchpad are a bit hard to press, but it has support for multitouch. You can for example scroll windows vertically/horizontally by dragging two fingers on the pad. Pretty neat.
- The screen is really bright, non-glare and has a good quality picture.
- Installing WinXP over USB worked without problems after I found out that my IDE-->USB converter was börken ;).
- The harddrive "clicks" sometimes. Some users reported this and there's some tool to get rid of it. We'll see...
Found another tool btw:
GMABooster - Lets you set the clock speed of your GMA 950 graphics card to up to 400MHz (default is 133MHz afaik).
Will do some benchmarking tonight :)

My eee as a BIOS setup option that has something to do with installing operating systems. I can't understand what it does. Do you know it?

Btw: quietHDD can apparently turn the clicking sound off by enabling you to change AAM and APM values. Works quite well. Just configure it once and then put it into the autostart folder with the /NOTRAY option.

concerning the topic: my opinion on subnotebooks is that they generally seem to be smaller than regular notebooks
An opinion is a good thing. Everybody should have one.
The cool thing about quietHDD is that the latest version is from Dec 13 2009
In your opinion, what Linux distro is better for netbooks?
In my opinion one of the main advantages of these things is to be windows-independent. Windows just let me down again several times these last weeks and I am looking at these netbooks out of sheer frustration.
It seems the trend is to use HDDs instead of SSDs and Windows now. They also seem to be getting bigger and more expensive, which is kind of defeating their whole point (small and cheap).

After testing a bit: softswitch is crap. get the regular Asus ACPI driver V4.00.0010. works really well and does not crash that often...
