marching cubes and isosurface generation

category: general [glöplog]

Hi all,

I was wondering whether there is a simple tool to construct isosurfaces from a given set of images (the potential) and export into some readable 3d format (dxf/obj/3ds etc.). Do you know of any such program ?

Deja-vu o_O
Didn't you ask for this some months ago? And I think the answer was something like aply marching cubes to it and export it. But I could be wrong.

I think matlab or one of those programs does it, but I'm not sure. It's probably easier to do it your self...

xernobyl: No. ;) If I recall right he asked the very opposite thing - how to generate set of *images* from an 3D object. So it's deja-vu^-1. :P

yes, it was the opposite thing that I asked.

I have myself code to make isosurfaces with marching cubes, but I was wondering if there is a ready program out there.

well if you really want a tool, then paraview or mevislab can do it, as can many other data visualisation tools (basically anything that contains vtk can do it).
