MSX 2 Category?

category: general [glöplog]

Hey there

Stingray recently added some MSX 2 demos which will obviously not run on a MSX 1 because of the memory and video differencies.

Maybe if i do a MSX 2 logo, could someone make a MSX 2 category? There are even more demos for it out there. I didnt add them because they wouldnt fit so well....

there are already way too many fuckmothering platforms with frikkin three demos each, NO FRIGGIN POINT. i vote for making an "Other" category.

So what's the problem with that? Other than the one-time small task of creating the category it doesn't add any extra work for anyone.

mic: the simple answer to the question is that if we can keep the platform count under a certain level we could denormalize the platforms table and probably speed up pouet considerably.

I think that platforms that have say 5 or 10 entires should be allowed to stay. I think it's fun to browse through the different strange platforms and see what demos are available. If those were all clumped together in some "other" category with hundreds of mixed things, it would be very hard to find a specific platform.

i'd wait with further categorizing msx demos until we have a more complete collection. besides msx 1 and 2, there's also msx2+, msx turbo-r, a wide variety of synth carts, memory expansions, mp3 player extension, etc etc.

if we would start *proper* categorization of msx demos now, we'd end up with more categories than prods. not a good idea, imho.

It's kind of unfair not to have an MSX 2 category (that would have a significant number of entries) when we have that :

- Solaris : 2
- Gamegear : 2
- Wonderswan : 1
- Virtualboy : 3
- Spectravideo : 2
- Neo Geo Pocket : 1

Maybe we could merge those ones into an "other" category and make room for an MSX 2 category instead. That would speed up Pouet moreover.

on the other hand, just read what Havoc said and he has a point :)

Maybe it could be an MSX2/2+/etc category like we have for C16/116/Plus4

keops: differences between MSX 2 and 2+ are minimal, so those 2 could be merged i guess. but a further combination with MSX-1 or Turbo-R would be more or less silly spec-wise. so i guess we'd end up with at least 3 categories, should the time come that splitting is considered a good idea.

actually, i'm starting to think it's better not to split at all. ppl can run all this stuff in the same emu anyway... so what's the point, really? :)

I'd say less categories, and instead add a sub-category where only the main category have an icon and can be used for listings..

EG:

*MSX
- 1
- 2
- Turbo-R
- etc

*Amiga
- OCS
- ECS
- AGA
- PPC
- etc

*Mac
- Classic 68k
- Classic PPC
- OS X PPC
- etc

Now flame me :)

Buuurn!

sub-category's would be good idea id say.
subcategories are great in theory but i cant see how they would work in practice.

What? Less categories? But Planet Hively doesn't have enough icons to span a whole 1280 width desktop yet :-(

No! They be stealing my icons!

Is that really scary to make a new category, even with 2-3 prods? Explain this, please...
