demoscene @ festival animatu 2008
category: general [glöplog]
Funny, I totally missed this discussion...
Filipe, (hmm, feels good. makes my argument get deeper under the skin before I even started. Should remember. Perhaps digging out names of girls we both slept with or at least I did could even improve... ah, what the hell, no.) as fellow party organizer and in best pot/kettle/black tradition I can give you a honest, constructive, probably redundant because you already got it, advice:
SHUT THE FUCK UP.
To elaborate on that point: You're part of an organization team now and you're trying to help the scene or for whatever other reason get demos to show at your event. This means: You should better act like a professional now. Granted, this is still the pouet bbs you were asking on, but still: Nobody fucking wants your personal opinion towards the productions entered at your event. What you were doing here isn't ANY better than the Bitfilm guys writing into their brochure that Iconoclast's music sucks, or for that matter me interrupting a kooi production because I thought it'd be funny (ok, a teensy-weensy bit better perhaps, replace pot with black hole). You're providing service here, so swallow it down and DO provide that service. And after that (!) you've got all the time to bitch and moan and call names (real ones even).
Really. It's not THAT hard.

kb: i totally get your point, but i rather avoid beeing an hypocrit. i dont do bullshit / politics with anyone, its a prerogative of mine. i consider it a social courtesy, but it seems most people in this world still rather have the bullshit and falseness. honestly, i rather stop organizing something then having to adopt these "professional" tactics. if people dont trust my blunt honesty then i really wouldnt enjoy working with them. if people can do a better job organizing stuff im all for supporting their efforts instead of organizing it myself, problem is in portugal (and some tangent scenes for that matter) not many people seem to move ass to make it happen and its really a shame for the oportunity to go to waste.
ps, however, in the "bullshit / politics" vs honesty debate, silence is often a good compromise. which i think is what kb meant when he said "SHUT THE FUCK UP" (weird, no? :).
of course i think this discussion is aged and it seems decently cleared out, just letting something pass by even if you disagree is a big many steps away from licking someone's ass even though you don't actually agree with that.
there's a thin line between honesty and plain rudeness, and that's just how people work.

by some odd reason i seem to find silence a somewhat of a coward stance on life. i have no problems adding rudeness to honesty, especially when im having a bad day and get provoked. its shitty pr yes, but well.. we cant all be corporate whores. hopefully most people will see past it.
regardless, i feel the issue is done with, but the deadline for participating is not, so: to the interested people, please participate.

navis: yes, thanks :)
waaaaait... do I get the following right:
"honesty" == "shoving your opinion into someone's face again and again and again and again when in reality everything has already been said" ?
Whoa. Talk about inflated egos.

kb: no you dont get it right. but whatever.
Being rude to others is not a favour.
Honesty is not telling people things the way you would like them being told to you, it's about understanding the other person and telling them your honest opinion in a way that they can understand. I hope you don't call that "politics."
When communicating with others, one's own design aesthetics how satisfying they may be, often are NO HELP whatsoever.

i don't think this thread deserves to end up in a ps vs. smash fight/debate/whateva...
the clear winner is reed, hats off for catching 2 bears in 1 trap!

nicolas: i wouldnt claim they help, they're often clearly in conflict actually. still, a sense of compromise where you wont relegate your own is always required, i can often manage that, but not 24/7 with flamebaiters on a bad day, no. i guess it also largely depends on the day. i wouldnt mind having an imaculate record but that would clearly not reflect my true nature anyways. so yeh, i'd much rather be ocasional rude over ocasional hypocrit. "some people such as myself have some sensibility." :p
i'd choose to be the occasional hypocrite any time!!!
ps: what are the next steps here? When will it be clear which pieces will be shown?
ps: in reply to your reply about a page ago: sorry for not replying, i got too caught up in assembly. :) beer at bp tho!
so what happened at this animatu festival then ?
all pieces submitted will be shown.
results will be announced at the event, thats 15-19 october.

In that case, the voters must have really disliked Kindercrasher. ;)
