NVScene 2008!

category: general [glöplog]
I'm working on my prod right now and I have to say more RAM at least would be fantastic in this ordeal...I think for people like me (age 16 in the US and unemployed) this demobox plan is a great idea - especially when I'm spending my whole Summer savings on getting to the party and for buying food and stuff while I'm there.

So.

How do I get me one of those demoboxes?

You build a time machine and travel back, oh, say 5 months, and apply for one. :)

Right now? Bribing one of the demogroups who are getting one, since they are already all claimed.

Ah crud, beat by gloom. :) Well a time machine would do the trick as well. But if you built one of those why go for a simple demokit?

How many were there, anyway? Yah I know, CBA to read 20 pages of people complaining that they're not getting free stuff.

why not, you're bored anyway

I believe 65 kits was the final listing. Most of them are already in the hands of their lucky new owners, and the remaining few are still being sent out / packaged to be sent out.

gloom: That's quite impressive. Of course, now, not getting a free demobox has killed my motivation to make another demo ever again.

mop: I can't afford her.

skrebbel: yeah, I've only been 16 since December :D

If I had £1 for every time Ferris mentions his age... ;)
parapete : I'd be mad at that flame if you weren't right :P

Detailed prize list for NVScene announced: http://www.nvision2008.com/Enthusiasts/nvscene_prizes.cfm - TOP 5 in both categories will be rewarded :)

Wow. Nice. But I think the difference between the 1st and 2nd prize is too big.

You think? It's based around pretty much the same formula as both Assembly and The Gathering uses.

gloom: 1000 people - 1000 opinions - and xernobyl has an opinion on 1000 issues...

two things i find amusing:
1. the machinima rules are around 10 times as big as the demoscene rules
2. we managed to get rob is jarig through! :D

I think that it depends on the quality of the releases. For small parties, there might only be one good demo, but for parties like this where the prizes are going to be massive, there's going to be quite a bit of fighting to get the first place.

I think that the closer the prize money gets to each other, the more people are going to "relax" since those who are going for the gold will have a pretty good idea wether they have a top-3 or not.

That might sound a bit fuzzy, but what I am trying to say is: The total quality of the demos at the party might be higher if the gap between the prize money are higher.

The price money are fine as they are. Maybe move $500 from the 1st to the 2nd, but no more than that.
I love how the banner at the top of that page shows a bunch of people playing some FPS game. True scene spirit! x)

I don't think that the total quality of demos has anything to do with the party prizes. It's all about the prestige.. I mean, I'm sure if it's money you're after, it's pretty easy to use your scene time for something that will pay a LOT better.

doom: well, there's also a LAN party, so it's not that odd to show people playing, is it? :)
