Pouet.net and ads

category: general [glöplog]
Hello all.
I'm talking to the pouet admins: have you ever thought of putting some adsense or paid links on pouet's home page? Nowadays google ads are not intrusive, and this would help the scene.org servers (that are often suffering downtime).
Just my 2 (euro)cents...

how about you donate your 2 eurocents to pouet instead?

You're suggesting that an ad-free site should get ads... WTF!? :-(

We had gargaj pimping pixar for something, you know?

AFAIK pixar gave some una-tantum donation, and that is good, but won't last forever.

And yes, i'm saying that some non-intrusive ad would not ruin pouet and help the scene. I can't see any reason in not doing it. The design won't be affected, for sure, and textual ads don't weight anything on today's fast connections.

Gimme a good reason for not doing it (for example, if it was made in the past, why it isn't so anymore?), don't scream simply "D3MOSCENE $ELLOUT"...

aren't google ads incomes proportional to the clicks on the ad links ?

no pouet user would ever click on them, except bots and scripts ;)

Ahahah, sceners are funny anyway 8-)

Obviously I am not saying of putting ads on demos, that would be stupid.

Web ads changed in the last few years... now google ads are not intrusive anymore (as an "old" banner could be) and with google you are pretty sure of the payment.
More, the ads are contextualized, so we won't see ads that haven't anything to do with computers on scene.org.

Why won't some scener click on one of the links? Maybe I need to buy something on the internet, maybe I need some computer part. Haven't you done anything similar in your life?

By the way, I'm seeing that scene.org already has something like "banners" on the left column, but those seem not like "paid" ads (assembly.org :-?).

Pouet.net is already full of ads. Ads for us. Why would we invite strangers to come and paint their own ads on our territory? If its for money, well scene.org's downtime had nothing to do with money. Money does not magically solve technical issues. (Nor every of the world's problems)
