320x200 is just stupid

oh, and: square pixels is for sissies ;)
i miss mode 13 :(
Does any one of you remember a weird vga mode that did 256x256? it was very easy to do a get/put pixel using a 16bit register (al: x, ah: y that sort of thing). It looked like death (cropped) but worked!
The best mode was 512x256 :)
Long live 640x200!
I remember reading about this 256*256 in a diskmag, maybe it was this, I am not sure. Weird size, but perfect for pixel plotters and stuff, although even a 286 was fast enough to just do fast plotters in ModeX. It would be a bliss to have something similar on CPC though (but with less bit per pixels, not enough memory for it :) where it gets more complicated to move on Y easilly.
I do remember some pacman clone that managed to put the whole playfield on a 256x256 screen...
ah the good times. I remember once I was switching to all possible modes on my PC, changing 13h for whatever other value, noting cool modes. Some crashed and most only worked on my machine. But I remember finding some strange and some really high resolutions. Like a textmode in something like 1024x768..
@Navis: Yes, did that and a lot more tweakmodes back in the day. Some more favorites:
160x100 (Chunky!)
256x240
360x480 (Maximum safe resolution on standard monitors)
320x600 (great for R/G/B fakemode, did a NAID party report with this)
640x400 (worked with hardly any monitors though since horizontal refresh was so low)

most of my mIRC demos are 320*180. 16:9 aspect.
Those archimedes resolutions were crazy. And still, not everything runs with modern monitor. Needless to say my archimedes has died since a long and no mood or time to fix it right now.
@pantaloon: 512x384, using the middle 256 for that "special widescreen effect"
they forgot to add it to the vesa mode table in dosbox, though.
idiots.

Holy necro batman!
I'm with the pony princess :)
Well, it's actually 320x256 but letterboxed to 180
