Will ASD: LifeForce reach the all-time top?

category: general [glöplog]
Just asking.

ASD has some haters because of guitar overusage and cheesyness. May be difficult.

But they should definitely reach the top10! Two of their other demos are already relatively close and this is their best demo.

for sure

Yes, but it really has the wow effect this time. I really can say that it's probably the best demo I've ever seen. I have thought twice before saying that. The FR-025 just gave me interest to the demoscene back but it wasn't that amazing.
Lifeforce makes me think of the wow effect when watching things like "The gate of Mind's eye" and all those Imagina/Video-CDs that made me crazy back then.

I don't really like their guitars (despite I do play guitar myself) and the direction of the music (nice job though) but it's their whole style so it doesn't hurt. But again, the amount of ideas behind this is really insane. Just look in the readme, everything is so clearly detailed.

And the "golden part" 8)

No, because ASD (and/or friends) is not as efficient in promoting their work "outside pouet" as FR (and/or friends). To see it yourself, go to http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com:

FR: Debris, just released a couple of months ago, already has 2838 incoming links to http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30244

ASD: Iconoclast, released 2 years ago, still has only 294 incoming links to
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=18350

I do not exactly know how pouet rankings work, but with so much less traffic, ASD prods are less likely to get page views, downloads and thumbs.

Yeah, also FR somehow managed to convey the message that demomaking is about sizecoding only. There have been several articles in mainstream press solely acknowledging that fact. Although this may appear to be a technicality, it makes difficult for normal demos to gain general acceptable and become associated with the demoscene.

You can change that btw.. just submit stories about Lifeforce to slashdot and digg. That is basically what propelled FR-025 into the top position a couple of years ago.

It won't work because it ain't news-worthy, eventhough it's an amazing demo. Don't forget that a site like Slashdot is a site for technical people, not for artistst.

Nah, just mention the geekworthyness of the assembly and the demo as a sidestory.

we will see just in a couple of years, if "lifeforce" stills rocks the sceners AND outsceners as "the popular demo" still does today. but lifeforce has the potential of getting this big attention.

Andromeda Software Development released what is probably the best demoscene production ever at the largest demoparty in the world - Assembly 2007 in Finland, entitled "Lifeforce"

This has been said before, but calling anything 'the best ever' is seriously stupid.

okkie: I know, and I agree with you entirely, but >50% of the people reading that will be Americans, and Americans want the "biggest, fastest, best". I suck.

I guess you can vote there too, if you have an account.
