Funny post. An uberenthusiastic demo guy breaks the balls of his girlfriend to go on democoding. This wouldn't even be me when I wanted to inform all the neighboorhood that demos are the leetest of all and couldn't understand how they still don't like it after talking about demos for hours to the average Joe. Pressing her wouldn't do any good rather than make her hating demos more. That's how I didn't managed to get much people into the demoscene, I was so extatic with my own views of demos that I was talking to them about how demos are optimized and do stuff in 386 while nobody cares about 386 anymore ;)

man, work with what you have! you have a girlfriend, great - now ignore her coding and just get on with your shit. either she'll start wondering what the hell you're working on all the time and will want to join in, or you'll just go on in your relationship much the same as many people in relationships do - a bit of sex, a bit of time apart GOTO 10

i have problems myself with girls, no doubt, but i'm maturing and i hope that you take these words to heart in the same way as i have heeded others' advice to improve:
as it stands, you just want a girlfriend who is a female version of you and girls don't want that. its only a matter of time before she tells you that to your face, and by then its too late. have you ever talked about her game without once using the words 'demo' or 'my engine'? it would be great to have a girlfriend who is like a best male buddy too and shares all your interests, but it'll never work out if you try to force things that way.

Anyways, she's got a genuine interest in coding. If she didnt i'd be fine with just getting on with our relationsip minus code. What I want is to see her dream of having a working mmo that she created come true... the demo thing was a sortof plan to build her up, but was a bad plan.... the puppy pong thing is my next best plan

It won't be too late, it will be just the inevitable way to learn from his mistakes, but nice point anyways..

xteraco: working with your gf is the 'best' way to clash, specially if you give her direct orders... jsut let her do what she wants and help her there, or ask her what she would like to see and make in a demo (or game compo, don't forget that demoparty compo) instead of giving her tasks... btw coding a MMO from scratch and from beginner level is quite ambitious o_O and there are so many MMO around now, but even, why not! specially if she's got some strong artistic gift, a good MMO does need a singular design!

Don't get too deeply into her own dreams and don't manage to make it your own obsession. It sucks. My ultimate fear was for example that my mom got into my own dreams and obsessions about the demoscene and pushed me into the same direction to become succesful or something in the demoscene as she had sorrow that I am unsucesful in real life matters (university, etc). In fact, she once dared to tell me I have to make a demo that beat Navis shit out there and get the 1st place instead, where she got back a big badass NO! She will hate her dream if it becomes your own obsession viewed from your own direction of how her dreams should be..

just let HER do whatever she wants.. if that's starting on a mmo, let her start on her mmo.. few days/weeks (depending on her devotion) she'll become desillused by her ridiculous headspin and you can comfort her by telling her the usual blablabla women wanna hear at such time and then you propose the 'maybe we should do a demo together?' and see if she bites... and if she doesnt, you can show the demo you did alone afterwards and either say 'NA NA NA, I DID FINISH MY DEMO' (if you're the asshole you're claiming you are) or try again 'shall we do the next one together then?'
