Running these acorn demos...
category: general [glöplog]
Can these acorn demos be easily run under emulation? I tried ArcEm and got it to boot into RISCOS 3.10, but as the Windows port of ArcEm doesn't support hostfs, and ADFS explorer doesn't seem to be able to read/write the hard disk images ArcEm supports, I can't see how to get the demos into ArcEm to run!
If ArcEm isn't up to the job, is there a better emulator?

I once managed to make things work with Red Squirrel emulator (and then Virtual RPC for Strong ARM demos which is only commercial. Though most of my favorite demos still run in the old ARMs).
And now I have a nice package with the emulator, mounted hdisk folder with the OS, various configurations and some of the best demos inside. I almost won't remember now all the struggle I went through to finally run some demos. Maybe some ROM files are also needed. And an installation of the OS? I really don't remember, I just have the zip with everything in it that I just decrunch in my HD and run the emul. Maybe when I'll go home (now I am in a netcafe), I'll try to see what is needed exactly.
(It even need to decrunch the zip files of the demos with some tool called Sparkplug so that they don't loose their attributes in the Acorn. And then to even edit a file and change something to make things run :P)

Oh, look at the old thread there! I just remembered my adventure and so I can write it down :P

1) Get RedSquirrel. You can mount with it a folder as a hard drive and do stuff.
2) Find RISCOS Roms from some torrent (piracy==cancer && cancer==piracy :)
3) Still, if you get a ZIP archive of demos and try to decompress it on PC in a folder, the attributes will be lost. The unzipping has to be done during the Acorn emulation.
4) For that, a tool is needed, Sparkplag. It's a basic file that decompresses itself.
5) When I clicked on the file, something wrong happened. I asked again and I had to change it's attributes to basic by clicking the middle mouse on the file and do stuff. When it still didn't worked, I asked and there were more strange things to be done. I've just read and it was too much, you can't know these stuff without asking :P (Oh,. all the story is still in that thread. Check this if you have problems with Sparkplug.
