"this sentence is false" is like the C function:

int smoo (void) { return smoo() ^ 1; }

ie. the truth-value of the statement must be determined before the truth-value of the statement can be determined.

Incidentally, "this sentence is true" is also neither true nor false:

int smoo (void) { return smoo (); }

The sentence "makes sense" only in the case that the sentence is true, but that alone does not cause the sentence to be true.
