eeblis: Well, your joining the so called "lynch mob" often yourself (http://www.pouet.net/topic.php?which=5432&page=9), so I don't see why you have to write this at all?

Also, look into this thread: http://www.pouet.net/topic.php?which=5464 to see how I "came in contact" with Kozmik.

I have done nothing else to tell him that he should stop writing meaningless babble, which is pretty damn my decision to do - and would you please stop using me in as an image of one one of "those" (the officially acceptedl pouets) in this connection?

I have the right to tell people that I find their postings unusefull and when they answer me or even attack me, I'll of course respond.

Thank you eeblis for putting me in a nice box labeled "asshole" again.

There is a disturbing trend of guys being over 30 acting like 12 year olds on pouet. (Cocoon, kozmik, mirrorman, some other "oldskoolers" that are too unimportant to remember their name)

Is that the generation x/nix backfire? Did the 80s really screw up?

Yes, they put something weird in the tapwater in those days.

omg, LULZ!!! scene is serious fucking business with important and unimportant sceners like. Coz making useless software to impress other 12 y.o 25-30 year olds that altso know how to do teh code is totally mature and important in the grand scheme of things.

seriously mate, you have very soft delicate skin dont you? it was not tagged on you to demonstrate what an asshole you are, but that i find it very funny that you and others here fail to see that you/they are as qualified assholes as any trolls here. Im on no position to take the highroad, i thought that was damn obvious :D

eeblis: well, since my handle was put in front of your message I found that it was directed to me - how could I possible misinterpret that?

not that it was directed at you, but you misunderstood "what" was directed at you :)

eebliss, the point i believe you're missing is that the demoscene is a very small place these days, and we're basically all a bunch of friends. most people posting on a site like this know each other personally, which significantly adds to the community feeling. i think many of us consciously or unconsciously feel like pouet is "our" place, where "us" is defined by the transitive "my scene friends" relation, so to say. is it so weird that we try to "protect" this community site from people tossing poo all over it? and is it wrong that we're willing to accept a lot more poo from people who are "one of us" than from those who most feel like they aren't? (i.e. zest, the ghettosceners, etc) i'm seriously amazed that you can't see the point and the reason in all this, considering you gave me the impression that you've quite a decent clue about human behaviour - i'd imagine you to be able to describe and even predict this whole discussion.

i mean, zest uses silly terms like "the ayatollahs of the scene" to describe his anger that we piss on him and less on others. the problem is, however, that he's not generally accepted as "one of us", and when people encourage him to do something about it (i.e. make something, go to a demoparty, act constructively, whatever), he refuses or blatantly ignores the suggestion. we're really not completely closed to outsiders, but you're right that we're unfair to them. i don't see how that makes us different from any other small community, and i don't believe that we can change it without inviting a boatload of poo over us. you've seen "community sites" break down under the amount of shitwars by newbies as well, i'm sure. the only thing keeping sites like pouet together is the strong REAL sense of community.

i think our low tolerance for "outsiders" acting like morons is perfectly
justified. and i don't see how it's a problem that we act like morons every once in a while as well. the amount of times people you call "the officially accepted pouets" start and/or maintain shitthreads about nothing surely is the minority of them all, i'm sure even you must notice.

Obviously i can see the point skrebbel. but there are better places for more or less purely scene related debates and I belive we have altso talked about this before. I dont go to these places to oldschooltroll out of respect for what the new scene wants to do with those places, and the result is a sober and freindly debate amond freinds to be found there. Pouet on the other hand is the kind of chaos and hodgepodge that the old scene was, and its BBS reminds me so much of intro scrollers back then in many ways.

back then all we was for a long time was cracking groups (and affiliated) trolling at eachother basically, and to me that was the scene i loved. Freindship was a big part of it obviously, but in a different more clique like way than i believe it is today, and im still freinds with a lot of the sceners i was affiliated with back then, and in regular contact with them.

what im saying with this is that pouet represent demoscene...its whole history from the days of crack and troll to todays impressive art productions, and thus its forum reflects this. And this is why i find the reaction from primarily newer sceners to trolls hilarious.

seriously tho, I dont see the hypocracy of your (the clique) behaviour here (and mine obviously) as anything else than very funny, justified or not. its funny, and its funny to poke at and roll around in and throw up into the air. :D

was zest ever actually a scener, i cant figure that one out. Zest care to enlighten me on this one?
added on the 2008-07-16 15:28:54 by NoahR NoahR
thanks skrebbel, i couldn't have explained better with my usual long blabla what i consider as scene ayatollism.

if you restrict pouet to your small club of international (european) friends, then you are excluding all the local sceners from local scenes or parties, the guys who live in nowhere area linked to the scene only with a net connection, the panamericans and the asians, the youngsters from the web generation, the guys from other linked 'scenes' (underground ones or professional ones like gamedev, cg, composers, etc...), and all the newbies... and that's a lot of people compared to your 'friends', and that's totally contrary to my humanistic vision of a modern open worldwide scene.

i don't know Kozmik either (i think), he's a bit ridiculous with his old demons and fights but he's done some stuff, he knows some historical scene facts you probably don't know, and he talked in a normal way while facing a bunch of mindless insults.

as i already told you i so don't care about your opinion about that nickname zest as i don't know you personally (are you that conceited to think that your opinion is so important ?), but i do bother about my own lil making, about pouet, and about the scene, its wonderful and less wonderful prods, its *diversity*, its culture and its future.

you may be smart, but you aren't that smart finally :(

zest, i totally didn't understand your post (the longer one). first you agree with me and then you flame me?

uhm zest, i think youre misunderstanding what "the scene" is. It came from various places, cracking groups, computer enthusiast that found new hardware tricks and shared them through mail and magazines adds. All this and properbly a whole lot more, grew into todays "scene". Your personal vision for what you belive the scene should be is incompatible with what the scene actually is.

Perhaps you are not looking, but sceners in America is starting parties, and if there are sceners enough at any given place, meetings are destined to accour, you cant force it, and it does not need central administration which is the sense if get from what youre writing.

Todays scene is a more singular and united group, than the narrow branch i was most part of before the dawn of time, but it is not a closed one at all as Skrebbel points out. I have met 3 1/2 sceners through this board alone, all of them genuine and nice people, and this is more or less how it always worked, just alot more efficient with todays techs.

You share interrests of some sort, you meet up. there you go..."scene" just happened. if this happens in a grand scale its called "party".

If you force "party" you get this:

Is this what you want to scene to be like?

i meant that your post depicted exactly my thought of scene closed-mindedness.

btw i like most dutch humorous or more serious prods, even if i know some other scenes better.
