Hi everybody, I've been coding a lot recently and I was hoping for some feedback. Any comments, critics, opinions are welcomed.
Thank you.

steffo, is that you?

good stuff indeed.

Now the mandatory question : why doing that in software ?

is it just for learning purpose, or do you plan to port some of these on a device ?

because software is hardcore, and hardware is softcore. also, it goes better with multitracked modules!

These, 100% in pure assembly and software? That's brave man!

Okay, you got good stuff there. Now make an intro or a demo :)

yea, decent color scheme, some theme-fitting gfx, a catchy music + effect sync and there you go !
Props for the software thingie although it is not necessary on PC ;)

it's as retarded to do sw rendering on a modern pc as on a dreamcast or xbox.

rather see it sw then ati/nvidia only, and still going 2fps on random ocasions even if you do have the card they developed it on -_-

nice stuff there

Very well done! Dont listen to the guys who tell you what you are doing is stupid and switch to hardware. Do your thing. Your work looks delicious! Besides within a few years, knowing all these software techniques will make you a really good shader coder for hardware. So its all good.

I've been doing this in software mostly to learn, as for the assembly part well it's more of a challenge, wanted to know if I could pull it off.
As for doing a demo, I intend to reach this goal eventually, I just want to do more than simple fades from one effect to the other.

well you cold recruit a musician and a graphician from your friends, and start producing. and there's also quite a lot of "freelancers" around, or people simply willing to help, or to get in a new group.

Yeah, I want to join: I'll make the scrolltexts ! :)

Seriously your soft effects are great, I love and it's my personnal point of view, all your effects but the software rendered are better. They are more accurate and more shaded than DX / GL. I see them on a MAC with a dual core at 1,8GHz. Hat off for the assembly thing: I love this nice design: little window, not so speedy effect so we can watch and enjoy.

You could make the intros for Hugi, I'm sure we can provide you with a good gfxer and a good musician. Contact Adok. And keep the faith: you do the right stuff.

ok ONE thing!

the so called "pitch" member in the ddsurfacedesc/lock struct/etc (also called stride sometimes) that tells how many bytes to jump before the next image line starts is not there as a joke. alas everything looks crap on my computer!

read up and wise up!
