Pain #10 written by Wade/Haujobb who thinks fits on his/her situation ?

In fact, read RAW #9 (amiga diskmag from 1995) the article written
by me called: 'Socially Elite'

Raw#9 link:

i don't have an amiga, how about you paste the article here if you think it's worth it?

i tried. it had no docs and assumed i know anything about amigas. i'm a lazy windows user. i want to double-click an icon and then it has to work. last time i tried winuae, it didn't agree (i unzipped it, but then i *couldn't* run state of the art straight away, so i ran a fire upon the deep instead - what a blast, btw).

Both Wade's and Sir Garbagetruck's articles were an interesting and really funny read (from a diferrent aspect each ;), although I think this kind of articles doesn't apply much to the geeks who have accepted scene life as an important part of their life and just don't give a shit anymore. These articles might apply only in geeks who are scared with life and worried about the things others might tell them about their absence of social life (I used to be such a geek in the past, today I am just moving on with what I really like to do in life, in great peace :), but still this works in the very wrong way imho, pissing off those geeks and making them react to these kinds of stuff, this reaction driving them more out of real life. From my personal experience..

The same day I read the two articles, I was hout about releasing a reaction for the next Pain issue. Prolly I'll start writting soon and try to keep it short :)

i've read both articles and found them both quite funny and sad at the same time. I do hope both articles are full of sarcasm but if not, they tell way more about the writers than they tell about the "problem" they are trying to "solve".

That's interesting too. But Sir Garbagetruck rules!!! (Oh,. and best nickname EVER =)))

Well, i just read the RAW article... i don't necessarily agree.

I have a good job, a fiancee, friends, and a social life. I go snowboarding, I regularily go out socialising at the pub, at the bowling alley etc.

And yet, I produce scene things on C64 and Amiga, as well as doing non-scene hobby programming. I go to Breakpoint and recently Sundown. I have a great time at demo parties and enjoy democoding even though i'm not that great at it.

It is possible to get a balance. Although, I realised last night, that when I have a child as I plan to do in a couple of years time, I won't be able to disappear to Germany every easter.. i'll need to be home with my family.

Xeron: its for sceners who are sucked in it completely.
The trick is to find your balance wherever you go in life ;-)
added on the 2005-10-17 11:40:46 by magic magic
But then again, balance is subjective. Being sucked/pwned by the demoscene completely is not bad at all, if you are happy with that :)

(successful) sceners these days are usually in their early to mid 20s, past the complete geek stage they went through when they were 15, and now turned into reasonably well off professionals with a girlfriend and a good social life. =) (at least that describes most of the sceners i know). here's a hint - people who are successful in the modern demoscene generally have to be able to communicate with other people to get anything good done.
that image of sceners as unsociable nerdy teenagers is totally outdated, but it's the kind of view i expect from someone (wade) who never went to an actual demoparty and met some sceners.

what is it with socially inept nerds wanting to fit in in the 'normal world' so badly? (hm.. the answer to this could be self explanatory.. anyway)

Fuck girlfriends, fuck houses, fuck friends, fuck girlfriends again, go to demoparties, get fucking knackered, go home, fuck girlfriends again and for christ sake stop this 'the demoscene sucks and my boring real life spent with my girlfriend on the couch rules' bullshit, please!

then again, though having a gf is nice it´s not so nice if she requires so much attention that your oh-so-great social life is reduced to quality time holding hands with your gf. or fucking her, or whatever.

no good!!
