The GFX / Warez Group Logo Collection

category: general [glöplog]
i get your point but it's totally not funny for me, sorry :P

Dip: I'm not trying to be funny at all. Read gargaj's message to get one of the clues (or visit okkie's olde clue shoppe)

Oh and by the way, did you use the word 'Ethic' along with the word 'Warez'? Then I guess there's no need to pursue this discussion any further :) (for my part)

and all those comments á la "you get what you deserve" are totally out of place. so this is where scene values have gone... sceners actually encouraging ripping is quite something new. i mean, okay, a pirate has to count with prosecution and always be prepared. but sceners stealing from sceners?!? what the fuck?
added on the 2005-05-09 02:16:02 by dipswitch dipswitch
keops yes i did, because for me warez is mainly about ethic. scene-internal ethic of course. warez scene is about competition inside a certain construct of rules, laws and habits. it's not about stealing in first place. maybe for the industry it is but who fucking cares.

anyway, i know pretty well that i am in a position where i can not openly promote certain things. so i better shut up.

also, according to your logic, for example noize/kolor, who did one single trainermenu logo for venom console (and is then, according to your logic, supporting the warezscene), would have no moral right whatsoever to get angry if someone steals some work he has done?

dip: the bbs add collection rocks man.. thanks for posting it. The Raincloud's add should get included too..

i don't really feel like i'm stealing anything by showing other ppl's work, only reason i started the collection was because i liked the art, and the only reason i put it online was because NFOTemple's Cracking Art page (the former biggest one ;) stopped getting updated.
also about this warez debate, i don't think the media created is warez even though it's used with it, i also believe that it shouldn't be stolen or ripped from even though it isn't copyrighted in real life, there are scene rules and if you brake them well... then your just plain lame ;}

so according to keops everything in scene is for free, and i can take whatever i want from it...

Lets go to his house tonite, and pickup his hardware then!
=)

alien: nope, according to that theory you are part of the warez scene, thus criminal, thus expected to burgle houses anyhow. keops can deduct this too, so he's probably waiting for you with a baseball bat ;-)

dipswitch, what about sceners that contribute to warez releases of their fellow scener's game or software?

also: FUCKINGS to analogue for allowing screenshots of the demos i was involved in on pouet, without EVER emailing me! you guys get your ethics straight man! you're copying my work without permission!! what's next? broadcasting hard working sceners' music on some netradio without their consent??
added on the 2005-05-09 10:09:11 by skrebbel skrebbel
How many demosceners are owning legal copies of 3dsmax 7 (~5000€) / photoshop 8 (~950€) / cubase sx (~700€) / visual studio pro (~1500€) or whatever they're using to create demos ?

Or how many are robbing the company they're working at by using legally purchased sofware (or not) for their personal purposes and profit ?

Afaik, the only ones earning money with their work are the demosceners (either in cash or in hardware) and one can wonder if all these incomes are declared to the relevant administrations of their respective countries when required.

I'm not advocating any kind of illegal action here and "warez" scene stuff or "ethics" leave me cold but demosceners aren't the rightful ones to give advice, recommendations or even lessons regarding legality.

Also, cracktros (or any gfx/music used in them) aren't advocating anything, are perfectly legal and are stand alone "work of mind" as any other demoscene productions, thus deserving the same critics and/or considerations that's what i'll eventually support if i was about to support something.

This is a nonsense discussion. If you take someone's work and say that you made it you are just plain lame. If you plan to make money out of someone's work then get permission. If no money is generated people should just stop bitching.

The only ones i've heard were selling their stuff was fairlight and fairlight are dead (not the legal part, of course).

Your words, not mine.

Don't be so paranoiac, kid :D

I don't mind if you're using an illegal copy of photoshop to produce all these photos manipulations of yours.

i don't take any warez-like rewards for my ascii stuff either. and i'm not just saying that to look legal, i really don't do that.

violator: the collection is twice as big now. the problem is just that i live in poland right now while it is on my pc in germany. as soon as i get back (august), i'll put up 2.0.
