ukscene pub meeting

category: parties [glöplog]
Yah.. venue next. What areas are good for people.. near train stations I guess? I'd be coming in to Charring Cross/Waterloo area, or St Pancras. The South Bank area (near Waterloo) would be great but I guess it's a little pricey.

We could always get take-out and meet out in a park? I'm sure we can cope without power sockets and wi-fi for a few hours.

May well be up for this.. dependent on cost due to being skinto.

Aww, fuck, the 16th? Didn't realize that was on the same weekend as Solskogen :(. I'm not in the UK then.

We could go to the Grey Lion on Textile Street
How about Doggett's? It's on the South Bank, near Blackfriars bridge.

paul, such a location is neither hipster, trendy nor cool enough for the likes of us

Any pub that has "Cod in smoked salmon" on the menu is trendy enough for me. SUP DAWG, WE HERD YOU LIKE FISH SO WE PUT A FISH IN YOUR FISH

Smash... true, it's not hip. It is fairly central though, and it's likely we'll be able to buy a pint for less than a tenner. If you need to top up your art-nerd points then there's a "celebration of hip-hop culture" at the South Bank Centre (Talk, DJ Battle and Electric Boogaloos performance) and a "day of documentary, art and discussion inspired by the pioneering Russian cosmonauts" at the BFI on the 16th. Both of these venues are just down the road.

Also, we won't have to dress like this on the South Bank:

evilpaul, pretty mean to single out leblane like that
Just like I did on the Sinclair newsgroup, could I request one of you to carry a laptop and webcam to the meet, so I can follow what went on? Just to clear it up, I'm not expecting you to *stream* it, just record it and put it on Youtube. Gasman.....? Anyone.....? (Hey btw, Matt, could you tell me an email address of yours that you CHECK regularly? :) ).
evilpaul: Best picture of Decipher I've ever seen!!

If all else fails, there's always the German Bierkeller just outside London Bridge station (Borough High Street entrance) called Katzenjammers... Only about an hour by train for me to get there and they serve non-alcoholic beer that doesn't taste of shite!

dotwaffle: Sounds interesting. Tables can be booked on Saturdays and +1 for the table service.

bitnaughty: You Spectrum people are weird! Why on earth would you want an incredibly bad quality video of a bunch of people at the pub? Besides, I think that legal reasons may prevent us from even taking such footage in the first place.

evilpaul: "You Spectrum people" indeed! I seem to remember a certain evilpaul creating a "The Tape Loading Era" demo for the Speccy not so long back! :) (which was amazing, by the way).
Anyway - the Sinclair newsgroup guys didn't have any problems putting up a video, so I think it shouldn't be any problem for you guys either....? If you think you're going to get into trouble, please, cease and desist. Wouldn't want anyone to suffer on my account....
Ferris: Fuck you :D
