Politic don't have to be forbidden on www.demoscene.tv

category: general [glöplog]
Dear sir. Tanks and bombers are cool objects. I haven't seen that demo, but it might be just a pretty good show. Just showing how things are might be very political or just objective view to the matter. And as in any modern art form, it is about the observer to decide what all they layers mean. It happens very often that artist has a great vision and things to shout for or against. Observer might take it as joke, crap, finds absolute negative of the matter or meanings way beyond authors imagination. It might also be that hard opinions are cleverly disguised. And by clever disguising I don't mean something like "Fahrenheit 911."

Personally, I'd love to see more politics-related demos. Especially such that promote "Freedom and Democracy"!

One last note to the dead thread :
Even good ol' MTV shows videos that have political and even religious meanings. Just had TV open and "American Idiot" was playing.. It really doesn't help anything to ban mild expressions as mild expressions are everywhere and drawing a line between mild and hard is not that easy.

i think some people missed the final point here:

the demoscene.tv staff AGREED that they misphrased the license text and AGREED to change it.

and besides methinks the whole point of the text was just to hide some of the possible attack surface from idiotic lawyers.

Banning demos that actually say something instead of just looking and sounding "good" is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Demoscene is about people who express themselves. And as the people are from different backgrounds, various nationalities etc., it's quite stupid if this doesn't reflect at all in their expression.

And yes, I think it would be really hilarious to see, for example, a "Hizbollah demo", or an "extreme Christian demo". If you get offended by this kind of stuff or can't live with people with opinions different than yours, go fuck yourself.
"All art is subject to political manipulation (indirectly - consciousness; directly), except for that which speaks the language of this same manipulation. To speak in political terms means to reveal and acknowledge the omnipresence of politics. The role of the most humane form of politics is the bridging of the gap between reality and the mobilizing spirit Ideology takes the place of authentic forms of social consciousness. The subject in modern society assumes the role of the politicized subject by acknowledging these facts."
