nes sprite editor?

category: gfx [glöplog]

yo, peeps. I'm getting into the Nintendo Entertainment System. I don't want to write another sprite-editor. What's a good sprite editor to use?

NES uses same 2bpp format for both bg tiles and sprites. Tile Layer (for DOS) is what used to use back in the day, but that's probably not relevant anymore.

The Nesdev wiki is a good source of information nowadays and has a page on tools https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/Tools
Shiru's NES Screen Tool is a very nice tool for all your NES graphics needs. You can import the tileset from a .bmp file, then you can put the tiles together as sprites or nametables.
You can find it on his website here: https://shiru.untergrund.net/software.shtml

I can also recommend NES Screen Tool for having used it to export NES assets a few years ago.

There was a "fork" of Nes Screen Tool by Franken graphics. https://frankengraphics.itch.io/nexxt
I don't used it so I can't tell more about the additional features.
