Definition of not spam

- Credits. Someone made it. What? Specify. No weasel words. If not you share, including the most permissive licenses. Alternatively, generated then share that you take no credit.
- Release. Something was made. If you share, you share download link for specified platform.
This is (not quite) the Demoscene! <3 But it could be.
Er, sure, go on?
I love lamp
hmm hmmm . hmkay
It's ok. I don't see a need for credits and download link, tho. Remains: Release
you realize that credits is a form of respect? it's impolite not to give proper credit where due
same goes for spreading in obscure manner or without download link.
showing this respect (wrt your potential audience's time and your inspiration's skill + achievement) avoids having to release the hologon level of prods all the time to maintain respect.
just sayin, it's easier to make something popular when you don't start off by annoying your audience :)

Releasing stuff Hologon-style is certainly not spam. =)

I get that you have a different idea of etiquette and respect than I do. That's perfectly fine. I assume I'm just a little too young to feel the appeal of all of that for nostalgia reasons, also: Mama sagt schöne grüße zurück :)

agree :)
As for Hologon-style releases...
I think this puts a nice counterpoint on these day's instant-gratification press-a-button-get-reward skip-through-and-forget-again mentality.
Puts a bit of increased value via IKEA effect/effort justification on consuming the product.
Catering to nostalgia is a byproduct.
It's nothing to do with disrespect towards your audience.

Skill, achievement, respect is meaningless, circlejerks of a dying scene with delusions of grandeur. Make stuff, and make an impression. You can call it art once you make something different, but not sooner.
Why credit yourself or others? Purely optional and at the makers discretion. Download links, to satisfy the laziness of some lazy random PC emulator guys? Or why?
Hologon was scheduled for a party, and distributed on disk because the party was cancelled due to covidian new world order cult going on at that time.

To get back on topic:
* Respectful presentation (whatever that means, for example download link, credits, opt-in instead of opt-out, no antipatterns like the cookie terror banner)
* Identifyable author
* Human-made
* Voluntary

you couldn't have done the exact same thing you made without their contribution - so they have a part in your prod. Applies to self credit as well. Their ideas, skill, techniques, art or whatever went into it, so out of fairness you shouldn't claim their work as your own. As for missing self-credit: There is no such thing, if you release, a domain, uploader account or scene group/handle is associated with it, which automatically gets credit.

I mean, my platform is the PC, I don't need to emulate :) And I'd have hated to miss hologon simply because I don't have an amiga
I think the discussion became somewhat moot now that this thread was sorted into "residue".

Take care of your own demos. If you want to have credits, you can provide credits. If you want to have a download link, provide one. as I said: It's ok :)

WTH is this even about? Someone did not credit the emulator release?
