Assembly Summer 2022 - 4.-7.8.2022 - Helsinki, Finland

category: parties [glöplog]

We welcome you to celebrate demoscene and our beloved 30-year-old event with us during ASSEMBLY Summer 2022. Once again, we have a wide range of demoscene competitions coming up. Besides the usual competitions, we will bring you a bit extra with In-Game Short film and In-Game Graphics competitions we launched this winter and you will also see not one, but two Oldskool competitions. And that’s not all, this summer we will have the compo you’ve all been waiting for: The W I D E S C R E E N competition!

This time there will be no esports delaying compos on the main stage as we’ve got that pretty much for demoscene content only! This has given us also the opportunity to bring Shader Showdown to the biggest screen (40m wide) in Finland.

The compos and rules have been published at https://party.assembly.org/summer22/program/democompot

In addition to compos, Assembly 30 Years Awards take place on Thursday 4th of August 2022 at the main stage. Come and see which demos will be awarded in 30 years of Assembly -competition. Voting for 30 years of Assembly opens on 9th of July during a stream on twitch where the nominees are revealed.

Why no oldskool graphics?

Why in-game compos?

Why not? Sounds like a fun idea.

The advancement of lamerization sounds fun for those who don't care.
The 90's called, they want their "people who play Doom are lamers" mentality back

Obviously there wasn't yet enough game stuff in Assembly
I am guessing that browser demos go in the main real-time demo competition. Are there any special rules that apply?

You've yet to explain why that's a bad thing, other than it "advances lamerization" (which, I would again like to point out, is some prime old-man-yells-at-cloud wank rhetoric) and that there's no oldskool graphics compo (which, as far as I can tell, Assembly hasn't had for at least 10 years anyway so there's absolutely no connection there).

Anyway, I for one am looking forward to enjoying the Shader Showdown, and hopefully I'll get something done for the compos too!
