Heh, but Portugal had the ref on their side when England played them, so maybe they'll be on Portugals side again.

It would have been a different story had the organisers not been such fncking retards and used a Swiss ref in the game after they were beaten the previous week by England.

I always thought the referees weren't on anybody's side... Thank you for giving me new insight to the game. ;-)
I think it would be fair to declare them both "European Champion", because those two teams making it through the whole tournament till now is truely a marvel!
At least there a 4 germans in the final : Könich Otto and the 3 referees... ;-)

The best we can hope for now is the Kaiserslautern-connection... :)

on first glance, Optimus' posts seem to be texts written in the english language. but if you look closer, they are not. the words he uses don't exist (ethism), and even after you replace them with the ones he probably meant - something is still totally broken:

"p.s. I was wondering, about ethnic ethism. I didn't sing the national hymn,. wasn't that moody as always for shouting with the others just show what happens"

i don't mean to be arrogant here or anything. it is just that most of the time i have no idea what optimus is trying to tell me. "shouting with the others just show what happens"? pardon? and i could cite a dozen examples of sentences like that.

greece has no electricity
I hope all olympic games wil be held during daylight :]

Yes, no electricity. We also ride on donkeys and we bash women.

Oh they made a mistake by giving us the games. They should have given them to your superior countries instead !...

so long as they bring back nude wrestling, i'm happy for the games to be held in the dark in a room with no roof.

navis, well... :)

you're not gonna actually tell me greece is ready for the olympics, are you?

i've already heard people speculating it's all a setup and that they've told the greeks they get to host the olympics in 2004 whereas one week beforehand they'll move the games to shanghai instead and have the 2008 ones in greece, to make sure the greeks have stuff done in time :)

Yes actually they are ready.

Now why don't we go back to reading the Times and Fox news, like good puppets we all are...

Blackout Hits Athens a Month Before Games
sample:
The blackout was not due to an electricity shortage, but to miscalculations in managing the system's high voltage."

Prosecutor Probes Blackout Fiasco Before Games
sample:
The blackout left all of Athens and large parts of southern Greece without electricity for hours during a mini-heatwave, halting trains, trolley buses and the underground metro system and leaving hundreds stranded in lifts.

Yes indeed, this incident happened, but it is the way it is represented that bothers me.

It is as if the western world is on a mission to make us believe that actually we are incapable of doing anything at all in time. The incident was not related to any olympic infrastructure, yet people think : Ah yes, these southern lazy bastards will screw up again, it is obvious.. How could we have made the mistake of giving them the olympics... I heard the same about Euro 2004 (Ha.. Porturtal. Bottom of EU. They will not organise it properly... Ha Portugal. Monday comes, they go back to what they are good at doing. Absolutely nothing.)

I live in UK (for not much longer I hope), and I get alot of shit about the olympics. Some people from the 'superior' race here, even thinks that it is certain that the terrorist will hit, after all there are so many terrorist 'pockets' in Athens. Albania is near, and they have lots of these 'muslim terrorist' mind you.
London Times even sent 'spies' to have a look at the infrastructures. The americans say 'We will bring our own security forces & GUNS' - As they mistrust the security. As for the Australian goverment. Are they sucking Murdoch's cock or something ?! I just don't get their attitude...

Large 'industrial' accidents do happen everywhere around the world. I'd rather have a electricity black-out for a few hours in Athens, than a large train accident (like the ones that happen in UK, quite often) due to shortage in staff and incompetence.

..

At the end of the day, just give us a break. We are the smallest country ever to host the olympics. And still, after hosting 293 olympiads in ancient years, and 2 in the 20th century, the task is as difficult as ever.

For those who want to come and enjoy, welcome. For all the moaning people, stay home and enjoy your nothern rainy summer :-).
