Jason, I'm completely in favor of your new web page. I can relate to wanting to dip my feet in the pool, and I was excited by the release of Werkkzeug1. I was further floored by the quality of the program, and the elegance of the tutorial file.

Unfortunately, hitting the big three-oh has worsened that impatient side of my head that can't be bothered to learn new programs, especially ones as esoteric and unique and Werkkzeug.

I'm not looking to make prods for competition, but I would like to make my company logo spin on my computer screen. That would make me happy. Hopefully you'll soon host some tutorials that will help newb lamers like myself make some things only we could be proud of. That would be cool. Good luck! I'll be watching.

maali: Yeah, even fucking lame assholes as yourself can find a group to join.

Here's my first attempt with the Werkkzeug: http://members.shaw.ca/demoscene/hand.jpg

It was supposed to be a car, but I must've went wrong somewhere. Oh well, the last (and first) time I did any modelling was about two years ago, and that only lasted a few hours...

great! if this page just had a better url ...

chaos: why don't you give them a subdomain? :D

Is it possible to skip the setup screen when launching Werkkzeug demos? I can't find any command line flags that do the trick.

Hey there, chaos. Well, you can't choose your parents, and you can't choose your fan/support sites! :)

That said, I will happily put in a support in the apache setup so that xxx.farb-rausch.org or something else goes to the wiki, if you're that worried about the domain. I run my own server and have flexibility.

For my part on the Wiki, I am focusing on the foundation stuff first, because it's the stuff I know. As I learn more, it goes there. If others who are moving quickly want to add their more advanced information, that's great. And what a wiki is for.

Cool as the overall idea is, i quite agree with ps. Creating new community, forums etc. only about a tool sounds weird a bit. And another problem - what about young coders? That was and is how the scene goes - young graphicians find newbie coders and make their begginprods, then they find a group and start releasing things together. Plain simple rule, that evrybody does know. Then, just think what can happen now - all newbie gfxans will do their things on werkkzeug and there will be no work for fresh coders. Unemployed, bored they will surely leave the scene soon.

But i hope that won't not happen. That's the evolution, so I don't say "that's ok, that's bad" just tell off facts...

After all, I personally hate doing prods just in tools. Usually I have too much ideas of new effects that cannot be made in 3d so that I have to ask the coder to invent the proper code.

Its the 3D-Acceleration issue all over again - lame coders of today dont even know how to write software renderers. Consider that for a change.

Maybe chaos could add an API to generate custom filters, so coders can add their own stuff.

I hope your not right.. I'm one of the "fresh" coders you could say, and I would really hate it if I diddn't find anyone to work with because every gfx newb uses other peoples tools. Though, I wouldn't leave the scene if this was the case, I would rather spit out some poorly designed prods with coder colors while improving my "skills" and waiting..

Hi there ... I just wanted to mention that I opened up another .werkzeug 1 support bbs which is meant to exist beside the wiki from Jason Scott. In case you want to contribute something helpful dare to visit http://www.vectronix.org/wbb.

I think it's leisured to discuss about setting up one or another bbs for that genius tool. My respects to .theprodukkt sharing their tool with even non-sceners like me.

Even if you don't care about I'd like to introduce myself here ... I've been an active member of the demoscene from 1990-1995 on the ATARI ST releasing demos, visiting partys (like Megafun 3 in France ... hey Keops) and even sharing our tool with others. I released a chipsound editor which was capable of playing 3 sid voices at the same time. It's still used by the active scene on the atari ... but that's only blablah here ...

I would have continued coding on pc but I didn't find my time learning all those nowadays fx coding.

Therefore it's really nice to play around with someone elses tool creating stunning state-of-the-art effects within minutes (well at least some first tries which look quite good for me) --- and that should be supported in any case ...

What`s wrong about using a tool and making support sites for it?

The libraries used on pc is also a "tool", the difference is that demotools is on a higher abstraction level and therefore the flexibility of making different kinds of stuff is more limited.

Demotools are quite useful when it comes to effectiveness of making stuff and they let people concentrate on making a demo then doing algorithms etc.

Demotools will not make coders obsolete, they will just make it easier for people to put their ideas into action.

Decent artists *will* find decent coders to work with.... (since coders BEG for them).

show me just one decent coder who begs for gfx,music support and is seriously interested to complete something.

who knows maybe this tool will help some individualists to express their creativitiy...
i dont really believe so coz if someone will use it the whole world will judge him and claim that fb has done the mainwork. so most ppl wont use it.

I just added this function :)

bool cDemoMaker::MakeCool() {
// TODO
return false;
}
xen, at least some dutch coders are having trouble finding good gfxians. try ravity and crash of solar for instance.
