I actually scrolled through it all and the pretty unique exclamation mark was nowhere to be found :( I also scrolled through a RAM dump of the part in action but nothing stood out as particularly font-like to me. Gotta be in there though! I did find the scrolltext and now my brain hurts.

ah right, it seems to stencil over fixed rasterbars. y-offset palettecycling would give the same effect though ;)

on a pc with 256 colour mode you could do it like that yes, but you seem to overlook that amiga has only 32 colours onscreen, that's just not enough to do your beloved y-offset palettecycling trick on two scrollers with at least 16 shades inside each character ;)
