Announcing Demosplash 2019 - 8-9 November - Pittsburgh, USA

category: parties [glöplog]

CMUCC is proud to announce the 9th annual Demosplash!
The party will be held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on November 8th and 9th. If you register before October 11, admission for the entire event including meals is only USD $25.

This year's Demosplash will have all the events you've come to enjoy, plus some new events we hope you'll enjoy, including:

* A live chiptune performance - artist TBA

* If we get enough entrants we'll be doing the live shader compo again

* The same improved event space we used last year, featuring tables for your laptops and hackery projects (as long as they're not making noise during compos), retrogaming closer to the main party, and more convenient parking.

* A respectable modern compo machine, still featuring dual Titan X Pascals and an i7 7700K, and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM

* Screenings of classic demos on on one of the largest collections of functioning original hardware in the US

* Retro gaming on tons of different platforms (C64, Sega Genesis, Amiga 1200, and Sharp X68000 just to name a few)

* Talks and seminars on demoscene-related topics

* And of course, lots of compos :)

Ping! Demosplash 2019 is still happening, and compo entries are looking a little light this year. There's still time before the submission deadline on November 8th if you're working on a prod, and still time to buy tickets if you'd like to attend in person (see http://www.demosplash.org/tickets to buy tickets. For those of you who can't attend in person, SceneSat will be live streaming the party again.

We can confirm that the live shader compo is in fact happening, and there's still time to enter. More info about the live shader compo and all the other compos is available at http://www.demosplash.org/compos/

This year's headline musical talent is Swerdmurd, and we're also having a livecoded musical performance from Ashlae Blūm(e). We'll also be having a talk about writing a PT3 player for the Apple ][ from Vince Weaver, a screening of The Art of Warez, and the usual screenings of classic and modern demos on all the authentic hardware we can haul in!
