Nintendo Switch console has been hacked ...

Apparently a group have managed to get a version of Linux to work on the system, largely for homebrew purposes but evidently not piracy; though judging by Nintendo's previous system security this kind of thing won't be long.
Would be cool though to see demos on the platform in due course,
Any thoughts ?

i like how they whine about "piracy" before it even happened. fucking hypocrites.
As they say: Go make a demo about it!
groepaz: but we all know once homebrew is possible also cracks are possible, so it won´t be long until they´ll appear from now!
I´d love to see some Switch-Demos, but to be true:
That´s like going back like 5 years in Time hardware-wise, the rest would be very comparable to a PC-Demo, just because the Hardware in the Switch is almost like PC-Hardware!
But atleast it would be on a "Handheld", while it wouldn´t be any different from watching some youtube-video on your smartphone/tablet....except it would be realtime, and we all know it´s only us that care about this aspect!
I´d rather like to see some groups trying to release the best demo for SNES ever, ideally with a big showdown at some Revision-Compo! ;)

i love my arm based pc
well, i guess i was referring to the graphics-card in the Switch.
you mean, if there's a GPU in a machine, then it's automatically pc like? f.e. a google pixel?
I think hardy is refering to all the consoles utalizing x86 based APUs these days.
Well the Switch aint one of them but more like an overpowered smartphone, no idea if that is more interesting for coders... demos for android/tegra powered devices are possible for a long time now but not really popular.

Phones are mostly mid-low end PC like - reasonable fast multi-core CPU, reasonable GPU through OpenGL... but they can be a bit more interesting too.
With no VRAM you have the possibility of mixed CPU/GPU rendering without the perf hit of transferring data between systems all the time.
Also, some mobile GPUs have differences that can be pretty interesting to work with - e.g. apple's recent hardware supports memoryless render targets. That means you can do multi-pass stuff without using tons of RAM and bandwidth, which opens up some big optimisation options. (It's not magic - it just performs the multiple passes per tile instead of doing a whole pass at once, meaning the data stays in GPU tile memory, meaning you don't need an actual render buffer and you don't need to transfer anything out of the GPU to main memory).
A lot of this stuff requires API support though - Metal is good on iOS, not sure about Android, but I'd guess that the Switch would be good as it's a fixed platform. Even if it's GL, any needed extensions will be standard.

so what? i guess not everyone realises that in reality, both comes from the same people =)
And i already got under the assumption Console-Sellers leak their holes once sales go down, just so they can sell more consoles as anticipated by stack-holders! ;)
Maybe BigN still plays oldskool/fair and they just got unlucky with the first generation of their Custom-Tegras this time -> The Console is still selling very well and would have continued doing so, even without the cracking of it at this point of time! :/ (Large list of upcoming games with splendid titles all over it f.e.!)
I just hope this ain´t the end of BigN, as i loved seeing them getting back onto the Playfield after their WiiU-Desaster!
Especially their InHouse-GameMakers (Mario, Zelda, etc.) are doing a splendid job -> worth being paid for every title they throw out! Was and still is like that!
Greetings to Nasir!

There's potential there. KORG does some amazing software for the switch that demonstrate its potential as a 'not quite gizmo'. Looking forward to see what this leads to. /me eyes my switch lying in a corner...
