Scene.org Awards 2011
category: parties [glöplog]
Scamp, could you please stop posting all this nonsense already? It sounds like you'd be happy if the Scene.org Awards died away. And yes, we were very close to stop organizing the Scene.org Awards last year, partly due to financial situation, partly due to lack of support and not having enough people working on the awards. Now we're lucky enough to have all these aspects filled, and I'm convinced that with all this support we'll have another kick-ass edition of the awards.
p0!sonouspizza: Best contribution to this thread so far!

Because the agreement is only a proposal and not a finalized agreement? You can backtrack all you'd like, but you know this is how it is done in a proper and open fashion. And I find it rather silly to make a big secret out of it. Why not talk openly about it?

It is you who keep saying that "TG bought the awards", while in fact this is not true. Allow me to simplify this for everyone:Do you really think it will take you anywhere trying to redefine the term "buying"? I don't think so :)
- Arranging the Scene.org Awards is not free. Last year, it cost roughly 2.000 EUR
- The cost of the Scene.org Awards has always been financed by sponsors
- Instead of multiple sponsors, the 2011 Scene.org Awards will now be financed by one single sponsor instead
- This sponsor wants to increase the budget and make it an even bigger show - their choice, and any organization would be pretty dumb not to let them
- Scene.org does not recieve any money for this, we just get a fixed location and a bigger and better show than before
Scene.org does not arrange a party - we arrange an event. An event that is the culmination of months of public voting and jury-work. The Scene.org Awards was established to bring the word out about exceptional demoscene releases. Again: please explain to everyone why you feel the need to get all huffy and puffy about what Scene.org has decided to do here, because I don't see it. At all.
scene awards, it's all about demos we already watched 10 times this year, and my favorites doesn't win :)
Hope there'll be a stream at the Breakpoint replacement party, showing the ceremony then.
chromag: There will be a stream of the Scene.org Awards yeah, and I do hope that the BP replacement party wants to show this on their bigscreen :)
Lug00ber: it's sad that you guys get all that shit thrown at you so quickly, especially with such lame and misplaced arguments and before you even get the chance to organize anything and show how it will turn out.
Good luck with the organization and hopefully this lures more sceners and prods at TG ;)

tFt: i just closed my eyes and imagined TG2011 ..with alcohol ..and darklite. it wasn't a pretty sight. :)
TFT: YOU CAN HAVE FUN WITHOUT ALCH!!!
Quote:
The TG organizers for one.So who is this OVERLORD TG GOD who has written down in stone for all eternity that TG is a no-alcohol event?
Quote:
Allowed, yes. Even at all likely, no. :)It is allowed to change ones mind/policies you know.
As it has been said over and over already: the alcohol-ban at TG is not going to change, so there is little point debating it.
OBEY!
tFt: you'll just bring your own værtshus anyway :)
can i buy an award for scamp?
hm OK, I do realize now that it is not a bad idea after all. If you can get the financial backing (and there is nothing wrong with that!) and stage it so that it attracts the center of attention, it could work!
for one thing I 'm sure, and that is that if it does happen, the TG democrew will give it 110%. Party attendance from central Europe will still be an issue though :-/

I do think the "buying up" wording is a bit to thick, but i can see where he comes from.
The optimal financial solution might not be par with the optimal scene solution, which is having the awards alongside as many sceners as possible.
The buying out part just stems from the fact that TGs offer is probably to good to turn down, but that leaves out the evaluation/considerations of other factors that made scene.org special in the past.
Its not accusation of corruption.
Still, i think you should have a bit more faith in the TG organizers, they arent interested in the awards as a cheap gimmick to hold up appearances.
I'm pretty sure they will do their best to make 2011 the biggest scene even in The Gatherings history, worthy of hosting the awards.
//No pressure guys :)

haha, excellent!
why bother? lady gaga will win the best soundtrack, steve jobs the breaktrough performance, oracle the most original plot\design, and god the best graphics.
tFt .. if "someone" sets up "little denmark" @ TG2011, i'm going right now!
how was the sceners/non-sceners ratio at the recent TGs anyway?
gopher: I'd say it's about the same as Assembly.
i honestly cant see the fuzz here.
the best thing about the scene.org awards are the little pouet icons in the prod list and to have those it totally doesnt matter where the actual awards take place.
other than that the scene-org awards are just your typical last-years-demoshow you have at almost every party.
