was.
niels: i'm quite sure you'd rather call me a german than an expat, so i take it you will retract your statement :)
well actually, and here is where I will surprise you: I wholeheartedly endorse moving to Germany
my few visits to Germany have shown me that it has a better value for money ratio, generally friendly atmosphere, lots of places worth visiting and is less cramped
so there!

damn you for your honesty niels! ;)
so what I wanted to say is, even if I'd call you a german, that would be positive in my book
yes, time for us dutchies to create some lebensraum!
well the germans got lebensraum to spare, so we can just go there.
BUT, i'd hate to end up in one of those 'dutch enclaves' in germany. if you move there the least you can do is try to be a proper german :)

yeah there's plenty of lebensraum to spare around here, in fact, it seems to fill half the local newspaper every 3 days or so.. and it's about 60% of the dutch prices 5km down the road, which makes the choice even easier :)
concerning enclaves, well... contrary to popular belief, there's actually quite a lot of germans who speak reasonable upto excellent dutch. i can speak dutch with 8 out of 10 of my neighbours in this appartment block, yet only 3 actually have a dutch passport. the border really is just a line in the clay around here- it wasn't really defined as it is now until 1963 when the dutch returned elten to germany- before that it changed at least twice a century for as long as ppl care to remember. from what i hear kranenburg is more brasschaat-ish... but that's on the wrong side of the rhine, so please don't blame me for not caring too much about it ;)
