If you want to filter people out just use your own personal banlist called user.css. Add ".cite-16314 {display: none;}" to ban me for example.

If you don't want to do that but have greasemonkey use P01' s old script (only for old GM versions or Opera) or my new script.

For those who missed it, Shane's Pouet login details were in a secret part on his website for ages.




There's always that potential when you don't control who uses your account but I think "Shane" was more about anonymous mischief than setting out to offend anyone.

doom, you're the exception that confirms the rule. and sorry for not perfectly scanning the thread for who said what, i hoped it'd be obvious that i was referring to lindewest's new account and ath500 and seppjo and the likes.

that said, sometimes i think you're more principled than a pacifist activist from the 1970's, so i sortof understand that you'd completely disagree with moves as nazi as this one; but at least your reasons are better than most who posted complaints; i've a feeling that they're simply afraid pouet.net would move back on topic, taking away their fun in it.

oh, and hollowman, i don't really know very well tomaes either, but i'm really curious about the problem! give us the whole soap opera!

skrebbel: I'd never disagree that Pouet is a mess, and it could be a lot nicer. I get as tired of all the noise as the next guy, but it also has its charms, and it's not for me or anyone else to start dictating what's "useless" and can be thrown away.

Take Shane, the supertroll, or however many people are behind that alias by now - he's been around for a long time, and he's made releases too. Is he not a scener? I mean, they're crap releases, but if you start excluding sceners because they're not good enough or not trying hard enough, or have an immature sense of humour, that's a really slippery slope. Excluding him for spreading trojans, that's another matter, but because he's annoying, or because he 'sucks'?

I do actually like the scene being sort of elitist, but with Pouet primarily being a prod database available (at least for read access) to anyone, that doesn't seem to fit in at all. In my mind it'd be completely sufficient to:

- make an interface for ignoring users (really, who can be bothered to write style sheets)
- make a bit of an effort to reduce the number of fakeusers, mostly just as a gesture to remind all the people drunk on anonymity that they're being cunts sometimes
- make a bigger effort to protect the prods database from fake prods and bullshit comments (one such effort was the Pouet BBS originally, mind you)
- an [IMG] tag toggle, maybe an optional preview mode where all images are shown as thumbnails or blurred/pixelated until clicked
- a restriction on how many times the same image can appear in one post, (and how many consecutive posts can be added by one user)

And finally if you want moderated forums for discussing serious stuff, there's loads of those around, many are dedicated to the scene already. What makes Pouet stand out, and I think, what keeps all the people interested who complain about the lack of moderation, is the fact that it's not moderated.

Not being able to edit comments is also a nice thing :D

i do think the slight presence of a sword of Damocles might be a good experiment to see if the actual trolling will lessen now. Few examples were made with the banning; a certain code of conduct was set (slightly ambiguously received but the dude on the button has the power here), so, let's see what happens next.

I don't know what's going on either. As far as I can remember I always respected his work and thought he was one of the more sensible, "good guys" around here. He might be upset about me thumbing down pretty much every puterman/fairlight demo and thus feels the need to diss me for not liking his buddy's work. If it's something else I'm not aware of, let me know. :)

maali: i have a feeling this is the idea too :) having seen some of the "abuse" mods around here willingly take in order to maintain pouet's sense of individual freedom, I can't see even them suddenly rsorting to extreme tactics.

hopefully the threat alone will convince most "trolls" to consider others a _little_ more. which can only be a good thing.

I must say Shane was prolly the funniest character on pouet ever, since macaw.

yeh, put all the trolls in one house with only 1 computer.. and every week one gets voted to leave until the funniest troll remains!

I'm slightly disappointed at this decision but if it lowers the amount of complaints about trolls, which are more annoying than the trolls themselves, it can't be all bad.

I'm still seeing a lot of the irritating trolls around. Are these temporary bans or new accounts?

I mean, seriously. They have five productions up there. Somebody has to stop them from trolling the entire scene.
