Moroder's video - what the hell is that

Is using work without crediting it or having an agreement in place that controls the use of the work "stealing"? In the spirit of the law; yes it is.

UNGH! There's the essence. Gloom wins. Quit bitching, y'all.

In case people fail to come to terms with reality: there was no agreement in place to cover this use of the demo footage. The fluff piece to promote the thing on Vice is no contract. Whoever that "director" is, he has quite some explaining to do to Moroder's people.

rez, I never asked anyone to be quiet. I only ask to be sensible... and ready for either outcome.

"Music video by Giorgio Moroder performing 74 Is the New 24. (C) 2014 Giorgio Moroder Music LCC under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment Sweden AB"

Now, imagine that someone tries to re-upload the original ASD demo on Youtube and encounters this :'D

Asking for 'pemission' is stupid

Then again, saying you directed sumthing when you didnt is also quite stupid :-)

Well, I just thought… it's going to be really hard for Sony / Vevo / Whatever to do any actions when one video (ASD) has been uploaded in 2011; Unless they have a time machine.
A time machine is not needed when you have expensive lawyers and a lot of money though...

Also, what I see here is that there's a demand on "pure CGI looking" videoclips, it's an occasion for many sceners to outreach like they are 16 again and stop whining about these "nu media" guys who "TUK DUR JEWBS"
Lets start a kickstarter project to gather funds for ASD to sue them. I want a pledge giving me greets in the next ASD demo to be released by Sony.

Don't forget that there's more than GEMA when videoclips are involved. For instance in France there is SACEM (=GEMA) but there's also the SCPP which is a copyright collecting agency collecting royalties for video producers. In France each time you broadcast a videoclip registered with SCPP (and Sony registers them all), you have to send a big bag of bills to them, which ends in the producer's pocket.

In this case it will not end in ASD's pockets, be assured of that !
(For example of the kind of behaviors that exist : we had the case with european producers distributing non-european videoclips - with all needed authorizations - but they keep the money for themselves without the original producers (big company) being aware of that. When we warned them it caused a shitstorm between the two companies).

I guess similar systems should exist in other european countries.

This whole thing is very comical. It's like Timbaland's case again. Soon there will be youtube video replies and side by side video comparisons. :D

If you think about it, that's another way for demoscene outreach :)

@knoeki: not really, as far as I can remember this story, they have been sued by the entire C64 community and there was a kind of "money agreement" afterward.
but when the single was released absolutely NO fuck was given to the original author, like "ho it's a music from a very old videogame, no one will notice and the author is probably dead now".

From wikipedia:

Quote:
The first Zombie Nation record contained the song "Kernkraft 400", German for "Nuclear Energy 400", which is a remix of the soundtrack of the 1984 Commodore 64 game Lazy Jones by David Whittaker called "Star Dust" which was made with the SID chip. Florian Senfter ("Splank!") paid an undisclosed sum to David Whittaker for the use of the melody.
