I find a bit silly that .mod format is not allowed for chiptune compo !
Don't you know that the chiptune term is born with .mod? Before .mod, "a chiptune" was, "a tune". Then to differenciate sample music mods from bip blop mods, the word chiptune appeared.
Why do you whish to erase ten years of history of chip music ?
No, Franchely, the mecs, you're deconning, là...

dod_drd, I open a thread on BBS with as title "The origin of Chip Music Composing".
As far as I remember that in the IRIS NY Conference in 1992, a guy from IRIS deliberately used very low-sized sample on which he applied many efects (appregiato, pitch ...) to make his song to sound like a, say 64 zik. He certainly reduced the size of some samples from the ST-0x floppy disk in order to get small-sized zik. My question is whether in doing this he aimed at reducing the size of his .mod or if he wanted to simulate song that sound like chip msuic, or may be both ?
But to me, the first guy who has done that is Uncle Tom in "Mental Hagover" of Scoopex in 1990.

I'm not so sure they are erasing "ten years of chipmusic".
At this very moment, less and less people are using trackers to make music and there is a kind of trend around the "chipmusic" through the "8bit scene" (mostly around nes and gb) and its not so stupid to link these people with the demoscene.
The fact multichannels compos are disappearing is really making me sad though. They are replaced by "executable music" compos, stream music compos, whatever... I don't remind much actual parties with multichan compos except evoke.

This discussion induces nostalzik feelings to me. I share your feeling kaneel about multichannels compos.
But I can't say if this is because I started doing CGM with Karsten Obarski's tracker in 1988 that is too long a time ago if this is because tracking is best with many objective respects. Renoise is really good.

Let me correct my last sentence before the last.

Hi guys, I think that that discussion on tracking and chip music should move to BBS "The origin of Chip Music Composing" :) ?

Well... I'm not so oldschool, I discovered tracking before 1999 but at this time I was only listenning to module. It must be around 99 I really started to want to write my own stuff. But well, the nostalgic feeling of opening a module, watching inside, discovering new methods, adapting them to my tunes, finishing a track, sharing it on irc.
All these tracking groups from the late 90s (FM, NOiSE, Milk, TDR or charlie brown...) really "made me" and when people ask me about how come my music sound this way, I can't help but tell them about soundtracking.
And yeah, renoise rocks hard... though I'm working with schismtracker these weeks for the simple fun of it, exporting per instruments and postproducing. It's fun to notice I have a different approach of writing with this tool.

@doh: ctc sur mon website
ctc ? c'est encore du RTEL ça :)
