Tomcat/Mawi arrested in Hungary
category: general [glöplog]
Ah, yes, new protests in Hungary I heard.
Let me know when they charge the police line with stolen tanks...

what the... :O
Ah, this was a funny one. There was some bitch some 2 years ago who wished to resurrect the fascist Arrowcross party, and held speeches and demonstrations. The media yelling of "Nazi danger" these days. I presented her with this dildo at one of these events, and she stopped her activities quite abruptly.
OK, for my arrestment. In September I was arrested for practically nothing, just for being present at the siege of the government TV building. I was not the only one, hundreds of people had been snatched from literally the streets, and held in custody without charges. (For me they later made up the charge of "armed assault on police personnel as a leader of a group", which they failed to prove.) I was in prison for 10 days, and home custody for a month.
Meanwhile, on 23rd October, our national day, police fired upon people on the streets, bet them with metal batons and caused serious injuries to hundreds of innocent bystanders, sometimes even foreign tourists, again detaining hundreds for nothing. Most policemen wore ski masks and no identification badges. International human rights organizations are still outraged, and the government denies cooperation. It was a certain step towards open dictatorship, the building of a Milosevichian regime.
On 15th March, another national day, the media already tried to scare people off the streets by talking about "extremists" and "terrorists" who will "attack people". This did not happen, though some 3000 people gathered and yelled at the speech of the Mayor of Budapest, who decorated the police chief just shortly after the 23rd October events. We did not let him have his speech and tossed eggs and rotten tomatoes at him.
Later that day six civilian-dressed police officers arrested me, and charged me of "armed assault", for being present at the Mayor's "speech". They searched my place for - no kidding! - eggs. They said they are looking for "dangerous weapons", but ignored my crossbow and baton. In a few hours the case was dropped and I was released.
I was the only one of the ~3000 bystanders who was ever charged with anything. Later I learned that the police acted on an anonymous phonecall - something they mustn't have done anyway. Someone likes me. The media immediately reported my arrestment, as I am a somewhat known person since September. That's all the story, and I am quite sorry for those who think I should rot in prison - their species should be exterminated.

good to have news from you directly! honestly.

So basically you want all human beings to die?
Pity that Jailbird and Dafunk couldn't get to the Forever Reneg8 party in Trencin/Slovakia last weekend due to march 15. demonstrations ;-(. They didn't get transition visa from hungarian embassy. European politics are seriously fucked up.
Yes, I want everybody dead. Down with racism, everybody has the right for the gas chambers!
About the fucked up politics here... yeah, it's a scandal that a Hungarian needs a visa to travel across Hungary. There was a voting in 2005 about double citizenship for Hungarians on the Trianon territories, but the government spent milliards on a marketing campaign AGAINST it.
For the 23rd October events, I would like to ask everybody to watch this documentary by Laszlo Pesty, a veteran guerilla journalist, friend of mine. This can happen in the European Union, in 2006.

Though we are still in a debate whether the siege of the TV center was an act of vandalism or revolution. BBC called it a revolution, local media, with a few exception, vandalism. Whatever, the movie is not about that.

Are some people pushing for active means of identification of riot police, such as unique identification numbers on their helmets and gears?
just watched that documentary, and tbh it still gives me the impression of "football riot gone wrong" rather than "ïnsult to democracy". ofcourse i cannot possibly judge the situation correctly since i wasn't there in person. but the whole thing reminds me instantly of the a certain evening, about 10 years ago, when i was "accidentally" bitten by a police dog on the street just a few blocks from the local football stadium. so shit like this happens in western europe also... and i'd imagine in other continents too (ok maybe not in antarctica ;))
what i don't understand is the reason for the riot. apparently hungarians were outraged about a politician who admitted he had been lying since 1.5 years. hello?!?! if he would say this on dutch tv, people would simply assume his political career started only 1.5 years ago. to vandalize a tv station for that, come on... you must be able to think of a better reason. like bigbrother/idols/dancing with the stars or smth :)

here's a reason: the football club with the biggest amount of supporters in hungary was relegated to second division because of financial issues. there are no big matches for them anymore, so go figure.
Doesn't this EU thing mean that you shouldn't need visas to cross borders? Weird...
EU is supposed to mean a lot of things, but in reality it just means that a faceless bureaucracy gradually takes over the decision process from the national democracies.
The "no visa" thing is called the Schengen treaty, and it's nothing to do with the EU. That's why you still need a passport to get into the UK.
Gargaj, you are an idiot. Where have you seen anything about football, including football hooligans on 23rd October? Or do you live on another planet? Do you actually believe that the 300,000 people at the Astoria on 23rd October were all "football hooligans"? They were attacked with rubber bullets, tear gas and cavalry, and nobody has seen a single person even mentioning soccer that day. Do you see any "football hooligans" in the documentary? Ah, yeah, let me guess, the biased reporter did not show them. Sure, they are everywhere, too bad nobody ever sees them, we just hear from the news that they even exist.
By the way, if you had a shoot about Budapest soccer clubs (I don't either, but at least I know who is who) you'd know that the club you mentioned is by far not housing the worst hooligans. There are a dozen or two, but that's all. I can give you a list of the much worse club.

and within schengen you might not need a visa but you still need a passport!
who said anything about october 23rd? the documentary states football hooligans during the september incident, that's what i referred to.
i also never mentioned which club has the "worst hooligans", but the club has one of the biggest supporting clubs in europe, and that's a fact.

Depending on nationality you can get off with identification papers instead if they meet the standards. So far only about half of the countries that have signed the treaty have implemented it and Hungaria hasn't signed it.

well, the guy with the crewcut and lonsdale jacket fits the general description quite undeniably... but that's one in a couple dozen only, and i fortunately have no clue about hungarian hooligan dresscode so i might be way off target here...

please do not tell us how :)
Umm, so a Lonsdale sweater makes you a football hooligan. Funny, but one of the policemen who interrogated me also wore one. I doubt he needed disguise within the office.
Gargaj: the documentary states bullshit, look at my photos and read my report, the one that made the police sooo upset. If there were football hooligans, they would've burnt the entire place.

you have a nice way of twisting people's words mentally before responding. sadly you do not seem to realize how much you're barking up the wrong tree here. or maybe you do, and you're just looking for an argument. either way, i don't care much about that kind of paranoia...
Is it paranoia? You said: "the guy with the crewcut and lonsdale jacket fits the general description quite undeniably." Or do you judge after the general outlook? In this case you could describe me as a skinhead, what I never was.
so maybe it's a language problem..?
i merely said the guy LOOKS LIKE a stereotypical hooligan. i also noted i don't know jackshit about hungarian hooligan dresscode (they might be hurtling stones in their clavin kleins over there for all i know). but i do know what the (wannabe-)hooligans at my footballclub are wearing. this guy would blend in seamlessly, no doubt.
the paranoia bit is where you draw the conclusion that i would assume more than the fact that he looks like a typical hooligan.
in the same vein, if you shave your head bald, you're undeniably a skinhead. my dad's a skinhead too, although not as voluntarily perhaps.

Seems to most of us (Hungarians from the historical territories) that the political stand of the current Hungarian gouverment towards the Hungarians in the diaspora (especially from those countries which are not part of the EU and have much lower economical standards, that means Serbia, Croatia and Ukraine) is based on the simple fear of assimilation of their fellow genera. By their speculation, a double-citizenship would probably cause a sudden rise of immigration and a crescendo of the (moderate) right wing in Hungary. Since logically, the oppression which came from the majorities of our host-countries lead most of the external Hungarians to a higher national self-awareness. The Hungarian left wing even went so far to spread passive negative propaganda against outland Hungarians, no wonder that a lot of Hungarian citizens are not awared, or are completely ignorant about the cultural and national heritage from the pre-trianon territories. Of course, the theory of mass-immigration is simply ridiculous yet they still succesfully seeded it into the common people's sense.
It's hard to get a Hungarian visa for Hungarians because of the same reasons. They are afraid of letting in potentional black-market labor which leads to tax fraud and less money in their pocket. National consciousness is out of question from the current Hungarian gouverment, and by no means I approve nationalism, but they proved dozens of times that they don't care about Hungarians outside the country, at all. So, if you can certify that you already have a job in your base country, don't have a reason to move to Hungary or, someone could guarantee that you'll come back after your visit, it's much easier to get the visa - else you're screwed, you can't even visit your relatives for a weekend. March 15 was also magnet for those who wanted to join the demonstrations. Clerks from the embassy probably thought I might be a supporter of riots, so I was simply turned off with all my fancy papers and claims that I actually want to visit a slovakian computer-party and don't have an intention to get beaten up by the police on the streets of Budapest. Whilst I got the Slovakian visa without a single question.
Indeed, politics are simply fucked up. I pray for the day when all borders dissapear and I could finally travel without constantly hitting into walls built by crackhead idiots...
word. the subsequent disappearing of borders is probably the only thing i really love about the european union.
